If you have ever heard of xbconnect, then you will know what I’m talking about. There is still a way to connect to halo 2 online without the use of xbox live. Sure, there are no matchmaking games like there used to be, but you can still join some fairly nice games. I myself just played a 4v4 game of territories on coagulation and waterworks the other day. If we can get the community of this game back up to at least 1000 through xbconnect, then just think of the memories you’ll be able to relive, even if it isn’t with some of your old xbox live friends. Who knows, maybe one day somebody could host a 16 player team slayer game, and relive some of the greater moments in halo 2 history.
Have you guys heard of this? What do you think?
Can you explain to me in further detail how to do this? Please! I’d love to play Halo 2 multiplayer…
> Can you explain to me in further detail how to do this? Please! I’d love to play Halo 2 multiplayer…
Go to this website.
xbconnect.com
Next, you create an account for with the username you would like. Afterward, you can download xbconnect to your computer (I found out how to do this by myself, but if your confused, google is your best friend), and install it.
Now it works with your xbox 360, and original xbox, and I have a wireless 360. I don’t know how it would work with a wired 360, but this is how you set up a wireless xbox 360 to play halo 2.
(If you get confused during any of these steps, because I am not the best at explaining, please, once again, use google. Or youtube. or both.)
Using a desktop or laptop connected to your router:
- Open up your xbconnect program, and turn on your xbox.
- Make your xbconnect search for your console.
- When it is found, click on the host you want to join from the xbc menu screen.
- Once it joins, you can put in your halo 2, sign into a profile, not xbox live, and then go to the system link option, and finally, join one of the games listed.
Using a desktop or laptop without a connection to your router:
- Buy an ethernet cable
- Plug it into your computer on one side, the router on the other.
- Now do the steps that were mentioned for the wired router service. Why? Because your laptop or desktop is wired to your computer now.
If you have any questions, then just ask them at the xbconnect website. Or you can look them up on google, like I did.
I used to go on XBC all the time. You would think that once xbl for original Xbox games went down, the population on there would go up, but it didn’t Although there’s still always plenty of games on there, but most of them are people from Colombia or something with bad hosts.
I would do this but it never worked for me =(

I found most of the games I played in the USA. Plus, if my internet allows it, I could easily host a game. You must be thinking of xlink kai. The only nicely populated servers are the latin america servers.

I’m sorry to hear that. I tried it on a different computer and it crashed every time I opened it. It made me so angry. I eventually bought a new computer after multiple retries, bought a new computer. (I had to though, it was made in 2003) I felt your pain for a while.
I’ve used this software and It’s not great. There Is no lag comp and bad hit detection, If you want to play halo online I’d say your best bet Is just to get a the pc version.

Exactly what he said. XBC’s hosting is loud and clear. You will know who is host as soon as someone shoots you with the BR. Same with Kai. Just get the PC version. You’ll get achievements as well
plus you’ll still be on live
do people still play online on the PC version?

Is the PC version still populated? I used to play on it all the time (On a computer made to handle it, lowest graphics settings though), but then after a while it’s community began to die, and I grew sick of game after game of coagulation. When it’s player count dropped down to 60, I stopped playing. Has it gone back up since I’ve been gone. I’ve been quite a while.
XBC is meant for the people who simply have an xbox, but can’t handle halo 2 Vista on thier computer (or at least not enough to have an enjoyable experience)
And there is the occasional good host too. Also, me and my friend play co op campaign on our xbc. Don’t join online games that much. I have a good connection, so me and my friend play our favorite missions through XBC. That’s the #1 reason why I love it.
> do people still play online on the PC version?
I last played on the pc version some time last year around November and there is always four or five servers at the top of the list that are full.
There Is still a small dedicated community on there, don’t worry you’ll be able to get a good game It’s never empty.

Ok thank you. Im really thinking about getting it
No problem
Ya the PC version is still populated. I hear you about the annoying coag games. But thats why you host them yourself. I go into those games and invite everyone from them and then pretty much run a lobby where I set it to what the majority of players want to play. There a lot of hosts like that in the community now a days!
Halo 2 PC is still very much alive. And I do agree with you about XBC and Kai but it is not the premier way to play Halo 2 online considering you have the PC version with the other tools besides just the game such as the map editor and what not. As long as your PC will run it of course.
More people need to play the PC version. I still my achievements godsdangit.
xbc is bad go on xlink kai

That’s great. I just need to find my disk and I should be good…
I haven’t found my disk for a while now.

This is true. The PC version is dead. Very… very… dead.
> xbc is bad go on xlink kai
I have both. I do find more people on xlink kai, but I find more organized (team slayer) games on XBC. Also, I find a proffesional quality in XBC, that I don’t find in xlink kai. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I prefer XBC.
