Well that’s lame.
This makes me very happy.
> Well that’s lame.
It was a horrible mechanic that introduced a coin toss to if you are going to kill a target or die just because he’s facing you.
There was little to no skill involved, I had a back to back Sword Block against two kids who went -17 and -14 for the game, and was just overall un-fun.
Dang. Don’t know why people hated it so much, it’s not like it did any good for the people on the business end, unless they were really good.
I hated sword block, glad it’s gone.
Thank god if you ask me. It’s a power weapon, and being able to block a power weapon is beyond stupid.

It wasn’t that much of a coin toss. Majority of the time if they did block me I’d just turn around and stab them again. If anything it encourages patience more since you need to time the melee strike better. Without it, you just auto-fire anybody close to you.

Did you kill them?
If so, it shouldn’t be a problem. If your target gets away every other stab, it would be, but as it is, it’s just something the quick-witted guys can use to get a second chance at living.

Why do you support such a connection based feature?

I hardly agree with Methew but this time we agree. x)

It punishes you for using the weapon correctly. It is a bad mechanic.
All you have to do with the Shotgun is auto-fire anybody close to you. All you have to do with the Gravity Hammer is auto-fire anybody close to you. All you have to do with the Assault Rifle is auto-fire anybody close to you.

My sentiments exactly.
It was a heavily under used mechanic, I know I never did and if someone did the sword guy would just rush them again.
I didn’t mind the sword block in Reach because the swords ridiculous lunge + sprint = insta-win, it gave you some lvl of protection. But now that the lunge has been nerfed to account for sprint I feel like sword block isn’t necessary so I’m glad it got left out. I feel like the sword is pretty balanced in Halo 4.

Why do I need to rekill my target in the first place?

Why should they get a second chance at living?
I stayed crouched and near motionless while my opponent lured them into the trap. Why should they live if they fell right into it?

Because if he’s good enough to beat all odds and get away, he earned his second chance.
And if they weren’t surprised enough that they had the wits to block, it wasn’t a very good trap. (and you probably still killed them, so why are you complaining?)

Why should I be punished for doing something correctly?
It takes absolutely no “wit” to make a last-second punch when you see someone coming at you.

I bet you can count on one hand how many times sword-block saved someone from you. That’s not being punished.
And it takes wit to take advantage of the miniscule split-second before your opponent can lunge again.
So what will happen when 2 sword carriers swing at each other at the same time now? I’m fine with no sword block for any other situation, but 2 sword carriers should be able to parry all day if they’re both hitting at the same time.
