So I went to play arena last night, and said to myself, ok let’s play some 5 games before sleep. And out of the 5 times I played, I got placed in torque 3 TIMES IN A ROW. this has to stop seriously, we want true randomness, I feel I barely play the original maps anymore. They should bring the voting menu for maps again. Or idk maybe play the maps in a linear sequence, or anything you do (343) would be better than whats currently happening, the new maps appear way too much and usually they appear continuously to make it even more annoying.
Actually, sorry to say, that is the definition of random…something that has an equal probability of being chosen. Just because you played on Torque once, doesn’t mean it won’t come up again; it has the same chance of coming up on your 2nd (or 3rd) game as any other map. I mean, if a flipped coin came up heads three times in a row, there’s still a 50-50 chance it’ll come up heads again.
As for voting, I would like to see a version of that return.
I hope they don’t bring voting or the veto back. This breaks everything with everyone only playing the “fad” map. Happened in every halo game with it so far. I don’t wanna rerun of halo 4 blahhhhh
As far as I know, it’s a weighted selection with newer maps treated preferentially.
I don’t mind the automated pick, but I’d prefer it to be random.
somehow i never seem to encounter this problem…a map i played does not appear until at least 2 games later which im fine with…cuz even that does not happen very often
One day me and my buddie got like 8 games in a row of strongholds playing arena. I was so happy, untill I got ctf
I remember playing riptide strongholds 5 times in a row. Although it would have been nice to get different maps it did allow me to really nail some tactics for that map.
I mean if its a map thats on the list its best to adjust. but yea the downside of this game is no veto system I’m afraid they don’t know how to add it like the others.

You are right about the definition of random, good argument. How about what I said, that I get the feeling I don’t play the originals maps anymore? I think it happens to a lot of people too don’t you think?
I have ever had this problem ever I usually play a good variety
So here is a summary of my slayer maps played. Its the map followed by the number of times played in march followed by the %. It appears for me, Torque, Empire, and Rig are the most played. Obviously this data shows that, for me, my map placement is not truly random, each map should have about an 8% play rate. Also note the 2 of the 3 newer maps have a higher play rate than 8%, with overgrowth just one and a half points under the average. I wonder if anyone else will take the time to do this.
Coliseum—6—7.89%
Eden—2—2.63%
Empire—10—13.16%
Fathom—7—9.21%
Overgrowth—5—6.58%
Pegasus—4—5.26%
Plaza—4—5.26%
Regret—4—5.26%
Riptide—7—9.21%
The Rig—9—11.84%
Torque—11—14.47%

Just because the percentages aren’t equal doesn’t mean that it isn’t truly random. True random does not mean you will play each map the same (ish) number of times.
I hate torque

True, but it definitely shows that “randomly” Torque is the map that appears the most. I checked my history as well and went back roughly 15 days, and it happens to me too. Torque appears in my case approximately 18.33% of the times. Again, “randomly” is the map I get the most. Annoying.
They certainly like to get us acquainted with those new maps.

Sure, it seems to you and Divine Shogun Torque comes up a lot, but that might just be you two.
Since its a newer map, I actually wouldn’t be surprised if it had a higher chance of popping up. I was just pointing out that Divine Shogun’s numbers did not prove a lack of randomness.

I realize that, plus my sample is way to small to give concrete proof, we would need many others to post their games before we can come to a true conclusion. I checked the standard deviation and did a z test, but my sample is too small. I will continue to keep track of these, because if every new map every month is the most played I will definitely have some good evidence.

To be fair, the overall randomness is true with Torque and Eden as Outliers. But, again, we would need more data to ensure this was true or not. Yesterday I played some matches and got torque 5 times, maybe out of 12 matches or so, luckily I closed out of the game since I refuse to play such a bad map after doing my analysis(even pros refuse to play it). Hopefully Aprils map will be better.

Yea I’d be curious to see the numbers on it.
The whole pros refusing to play a map is something that I just don’t get, but that’s another discussion haha
A buddy and I were talking about this because we have had the same issues as posted, what 343 really should do is bring back the vote to skip method like in the old days… You know the good old veto method!
