There is more wrong with the battlepass then xp

I have noticed that everyone is continually harping at the rate at which we earn xp to complete the battlepass, and while don’t get me wrong there is plenty wrong with that I don’t think it is the core issue. The core problem is the rewards on the battlepass. Most of the items on the battlepass are challenge swaps and xp boosts.

The armor pieces and accessories are spaced out a lot, and if you look in armor customization most of the options are locked behind “details coming soon” with only 3-4 options available to earn for each slot. If every level of the pass gave an xpboost/swap, an armor piece, and some other misc reward(emblems, colors, etc) then I think earning each level would feel like a real reward rather then a sigh and a groan on the way to grinding six more levels to get something you are actually interested in.

There should definitely be condensing with items like the shoulder pieces, it’s unnecessarily padding out useful space.

The thing bugging me about the battlepass, (and I may be wrong here) is that most of the armor pieces just look like pieces of the Reach aromor cores you unlock later on.

The sad thing is we know from bots, kits & pre-release screenshots that a bunch of the reach armour is in the game but not even obtainable via the battlepass. I imagine all that will be sold as microtransactions on release day, or a future “reach season 2” battlepass.

It’s a joke really and the only reason we have kits, core specific visors & coatings and split shoulders is so they can sell more. I’d bet at some point in development a lot of those missing items were meant to be in the pass.

I think the problem is radically alterting the battlepass is tricky after release. Not to mention you’re pretty much asking for them to make new stuff out of thin air to fill it. The ‘details coming soon’ are store items.

Increasing EXP gains is a bandaid fix.

This is the thing though, there’s a tonne of reach armor in the game files that’s missing but spawns on bots. There is content for the pass, it just got removed in favour of splitting shoulders etc.

Like, something people need to bare in mind is the content in game isn’t limited to what’s in the battlepass or the store. Bots can spawn with a whole range of armors that are not visible in either the pass or the armoury. If you load up some customs with lots of bots and then watch it back in theatre you’re almost guaranteed to notice this (I’ve done so myself and found a MK.VII ODST helmet, some broad flat reach shoulders not in game or in any of the kits, and some unique reach core knee pads).

I agree, this Battle Pass doesn’t have a whole lot for free players. I wonder if the next Battle Pass next year will be more content-filled to make up for it, or if they’ll manage to somehow tack an extra 25 or so levels with additional cosmetic rewards on there sometime next year before the next season.

I do think that this current fix is much better than we had before, but it’s mainly a good band-aid while they get to work on other ways to keep people engaged and reward them.

The lack of any sort of Commendations system that could reward Weapon Charms of various types is baffling. Being able to get kills with X weapon, getting X number of medal Y, and getting a tiny version of the weapon and the medals as a Weapon Charm would have been an absolute slam dunk way of keeping people engaged and like they’re working toward something outside of the BP.

I think that if they have the time and aren’t busy with some other similar system, in this upcoming span of time they could very well start, iterate on, and then introduce a Commendations and non-BP XP level system around early March, a couple months before the next season.
