There is a Problem with Locust Targeting

Short and Sweet, I select all my locust and I want them to shoot a base but they don’t have too much health so I hide them behind some tankier units. I click all locust and I want then I tell them to attack the base. Being the long ranged everthing-killer that they are, naturally the hunter worms that pilot them walk right up to the door step of the base to take all of the turret fire directly in the face. why, because yoink logic.

If you didn’t follow that, if you tell locust to attack something, they will walk up until they are point blank rather than relying on their super long range cannons. this is very annoying when you don’t want them to target the turrets they auto lock on to. of course you can manually put where you want them but their targeting will be all sorts of messed up if they re target on a building turret. I think this is a very fixable bug and I’m shocked it doesn’t get more attention.

Having hold position added will be nice

Maybe an “attack form position” command. E.g Hold LT or RT and press X on the spot you want them to attack from. They then move there and attack from the allocated position. Essentially the same as locking down Kodiaks with the Y button.

They are snipers in vehicle form, they should know that. “Hmm I need to attack that target, I know I can reach, but lets walk into the enemies line of sight just to make sure”

I know, just suggesting a new command 343 could add, so we dont have to rely on the AI.

Same thing happen with colossus. They always walk into their own visual range if simply told to attack. The proper way to work around this is to tell them what to attack first and THEN move them to the position you want.

That is a sign this is indeed a halo wars game. Anyways though this is a bug that always happens to me I tell my units to attack and instead attack they move to that position.

Darn Grunts and their driving skills.

I think I heard that both the scarab and the locust are piloted by lekgolo

This won’t fix the problem because when you hold you are not targeting I believe, I think the OP is having this problem when he wants the locust to change targets, I know I have that problem too.

The current workaround is to target and move back, that way the locusts retain the most recent target.

Operated, but piloted by Grunts or other races

Yeah the locust definitely are Grunts as that’s why Methane Wagons coupled with Locusts were pretty damn good on YapYap.

It would be nice if units attacked from their max range when ordered to attack rather than death marching ahead. Snipers and colossuses would also benefit from that change.
