So I am a fan of the Halo series and love finding out about small story details but this came with a surprise to me:
Someone said that there are in fact 2 arks? A lesser and greater?
What is the difference? location? Would love to know more about it as I don’t have the novels.
There are not to arks, maybe you shouldn’t believe everything you hear from random people.
That makes no sense for there to be 2 arks.
In the halo universe there are alot of twos 2 didacts 2 343 guilty sparks 2 arks one is instalation 00 the other is the grand ark
But what is the difference with the Grand Ark vs Installation 00?
There are indeed two Arks.
The greater ark and the lesser ark.
We see the lesser ark in Halo 3. Not much is known about the greater ark however.

The Greater Ark is much bigger first of all, and it can also fold up into a ball.

Sounds to me like 343i overcomplicating a perfectly good story the way it was.
‘The Ark’ one/singular was always a very important statement in Halo 2 and 3. It was THE place, THE hub of the Halo array. Having more than one just creates an excuse for a reoccurance of the classic Halo 2 line “That… is another Halo”. So they can throw “That… is another Ark” into Halo 5 or 6.
Just without Johnson to choke on his own cigar for a moment.

The original design for the Halos array was to have each one be 30,000 kilometers in diameter, the Greater Ark was to build these ones. Unfortunately that didn’t work out because of slipspace issues, so they made the Lesser Ark to build the final array.

Halo is starting to get increasingly complicated
this has been known for a long time. the lesser ark and greater arks are stationed on opposite sides of the galaxy. The lesser ark was used to construct the 6 smaller halos, and the greater ark was used to construct the 6 larger halos. after the forerunner-flood war, most of the larger halos were destroyed, and the final one ejected damaged areas and became about the size of the smaller halos. Thus, 7 remaining halos in the entire array.

There are 5 halo rings that are much bigger than the 7 that are associated with the halo 3 ark.

Forerunners have always been complicated.
Here’s the quick explanation:

Read cryptum and primordium then you will know the headaches of thoes including myself have gone through it is truly amazing though
This does not have to do with halo 4 so it belongs on the universe forum.
The greater ark manufactured 12 huge halo rings of 30,000km in diameter. The two arks were lifeworker’s crèches.
After the battle of the capital, many halos got destroyed. The lesser ark built 6 smaller rings. One rogue halo, went into hiding. That halo was badly damaged and after rescue from imminent destruction from the gravity of the wolf-planet by the Bornstellar-Didact, it’s size was reduced to 10,000km to be able to travel to the ark for repairs. It was then installation 07.

Lol, yes there is two Arks, The Lower Ark and the Greater Ark. This is found out in Primordium.
