Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I wanted to toss out a quick thought that I have regarding the Didact.
After re-watching the Halo 4 terminal video, I noticed that at 14:22, the Librarian states, “I beg of you, find the strength to help them (humans) learn from our mistakes… let them teach you something, please”
The statement above makes me think that this could potentially be foreshadowing future events in the Reclaimer “saga” (trilogy?). Could the Didact play a “Severus Snape” type of role in the Halo series, where he appears to be evil at every turn, but in the end finds a moral ground to stand on?
We all know the Flood will return, and this time BOTH humans, and the Didact know of their strength and consequences. Will they be forced to team up later? The Halo series has always been known for having crazy drama between factions, I mean hell, you even team up with the Flood for a moment in Halo 3, so don’t rule anything out.
Your thoughts?
He won’t turn from his insanity unless he is able to shake off the mental scarring of the Gravemind that he suffered.
Nah it’s more awesome if he stays evil and master cheif continues fighting him, I also doubt the didact will see any good in the human race and just wants to get rid of them to exterminate the flood.
I think it is inevitable, just as the return of the Flood and 343 Guilty Spark is.
I’m pretty sure the Didact has been corrupted by the Flood, though.
Also, his hate for humanity is intense, I can’t see him teaming up with what he considers his arch-rivals. He’s freaking out about humanity gaining ultimate control over the Mantle, so helping the humans would throw in the chance of humanity living to fight another day.
Any chance of humanity falling to it’s knees, the Didact is going to take.
I don’t think 343i built the Didact up so much in the lore just so he would be the main villain for the remainder of the games. I believe that through some sort of revelation he will begin to see the error of his ways and will come to a point where he begins to forgive humanity, or at least come to some kind of understanding. I think one way he could come to this conclusion would be after watching the determination of the Master Chief and watching the trials and hardships he goes through. Also I think the return of the Flood will help to change his perspective.
Just my thoughts on the matter, not necessarily what will happen.
He would have better story value in my opinion if he didn’t team up with humanity. Just my opinion, but the “evil guy team up to fight the greater evil” has been done to death and has little plot value.
But he probably will team up with humanity.
It is possible that he will be good at one point, but have to realize what he has done to his people and the galaxy.
I just can’t wait for Chief to take off his helmet and be like “No Didact, I, am your son!”
Wait what
The Ur-Didact is currently an unwitting Flood pawn (so I believe), and quite insane. Maybe it would be possible to snap him out of it, but whatever event does is going to have to be incredibly intense. He’s pretty far gone.

Whats the theory behind the return of Guilty Spark?

Halo: Primordium.

Theory? It’s fact. The ending pages of Primordium tell us that ONI has found the remains of 343GS, and once he was onboard the Rubicon he simultaneously assumed control of the ship while he shared his narrative. He is currently seeking out what he believes to be the Librarian’s hiding spot.

He comes back in the Greg Bear novels
Thanks for the info, didn’t read Primordium. That’s really interesting.

That’s pretty weak. Im pretty sure the facility where Master Chief killed him was blown to hell and back as I gunned it for the Forward Unto Dawn and as the entire area around me collapsed on itself. How would anyone be able to find his remains in any of that? And outside the fiction, what would be the reasoning behind the decision to randomly bring him back to life?

His remains gave off a signal.
Doubtful. There’s been lots of hints that he’ll stay insane for a while. Besides there would be no reason the IsoDidact (and possibly other Forerunners) would return.
I hope so for the sake of his character’s depth. His current motives are weak.
Alternatively, show him sink further into insanity and paranoia.

-_-
Okay, why.
