I dont know if its been cleared or not, but this is my theory on Hostile elites in Halo 4
Okay, As you all know, the elites allied with the humans towards the end of the Human-Covenant war. Then when it ended, again most of you know that we stayed friendly with the Sangheili. Since the Covenant fell, they were independent again. But their society went into serious crisis, the Sangheili split up into many factions of different beliefs on how to run their society since they had no direction from the Prophets. There was one faction known as the Servents of Abiding Truth, they opposed Thel and the rest of the Sangheili who were allied with the Humans. Therefor, im pretty sure they are hostile to the UNSC. Despite all that the, UNSC especially ONI, wanted to keep the Sangheili disorganized so they incited the Servants of Abiding Truth believing this would eliminate any possibilities of the Sangheili ever opposing humans again. To me, i think that just made it worse considering if the friendly Sangheili found out it would probably break the alliance. With this happening any elites in search for forerunner tech would most likely be hostile rather than friendly. Again, this is just my theory.
I just now started to follow the Halo 4 story, ive been looking into the multilayer mostly so im sorry if there is already an exact explanation on this.
*This is not made up, i read alot on Halo and i remember this.
*So im sorry its not, MY theory, its MY reason for believing why there are hostile Elites.
elites have a honor bound system. but things can crumble such things. they lost there gods there prophets and the war. the covy did what any society would do in this chaos. split up.
so yes the group on requiem is a seperate faction. But they are fighting humans or anything that gets in there way for that matter. because they found the great builder on a halo ring and he is well a god to them. so they are so happy to see that there god exists they will do whatever they can to help him. so thats why we are fighting covy again.

There is no covy at least i think not. But your saying the part of the covenant who still believe in Forerunners being gods, which is if you dont mind me saying, completely stupid. Anyways, on topic your saying the part of the covy who STILL believe that might have rebuilt themselves because that makes complete since considering the surviving prophets went into hiding after they lost the war, maybe they came out when this was discovered?

The Elite’s “honor” is complete -Yoink- as far as I’m concerned. Killing innocents because someone told you to do it is not honorable.

When?

I agree with Decepticon. Nothing you said was true, much less in English.
I fear Thel will be assassinated.
I’m wondering if we will see some of the fractioning in Halo 4.
Either way I’m slightly curious, who’s leading this “rag tag” covenant? They have to be united under some purpose, hence the term. What’s their goal?

A 343 interview to GameInformer I think said they believe one of their gods is on Requiem…but something else had to keep them together for that to happen though.

I think it’s safe to say Cheifs new nemesis and the new Covenants “god” are one in the same.

My belief is that the prophets that went into hiding after the war will be leading the “rag tag”

Maybe, but I think it will be a Sangheilli zealot (religious nut). Doubtful that they would put trust into another San’ Shyuum.
Actually I’m pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere by 343 that it was indeed factions split since the covenant no longer had their religion. However that does not mean the Forerunner tech did not have great power. So yeah, you’re theory is most likely at least 80% fact.
I thought this thread was 1,000X’s better than anything else on the front page.
Apparently the community disagrees.

That actually makes sense. The prophets did betray them after all. So maybe it will be another powerful Sangheili leading the faction

When they posted images for the new action figures the grunts where called storm grunts. Plus the new plasma rifle/repeater is called the storm rifle.
On the topic of elites. Are there, like, different breeds/types of them? Cause they change in appearance a lot. These changes are often very large, from the enormous muscle-bound giants with rough skin in H:W, the bulky ones in reach with all the markings on there skin, the fairly plain ones from H:CE H2 and H3, to these ugly strangely colored elites in H4. Is there i reason for this, or are htey just changing there appearance for the sake of changing it?

Nope a Sangheili is a Sangheili buddy, in halo wars elites were much more detailed in the cut-scenes do to the program they used for it i think. So basically yes, the appearances just change a little bit. *Off Topic: However they are all not the same size, take Ripa for instance(arbiter in halo wars) the dude was 8’1" about 400 pounds as where the average elite is around 7’4"-7’10" 300-350 pounds

it says it in a book. the cryptium? i think. so its probable that during chief’s cryo they found the ring with the great builder.

i never said there was a group that still believed in the gods of the prophets. what i am saying is its completley possible that they came across the ring with the great bilder on it and it spoke to them. and like i said chaos. so if they found out that there religion was wrong. then they find the great builder. maybe they would be crazy enough to believe him? its just a hunch i made based off the books. i mean there is a ring at requiem in the main menu.
