Theory of what will happen in Bad Blood

So, we got the synopsis of Bad Blood, which reads:

> Just hours following their climactic battle on the Forerunner planet Genesis, the Spartans of Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris find themselves running for their lives from the malevolent machinations of the now-renegade artificial intelligence Cortana. But even as they attempt to stay one step ahead, trouble seems to find Spartan Edward Buck no matter where he turns. A secret mission enacted by the Office of Naval Intelligence could possibly help turn the tide, and has Buck reluctantly agreeing to reform his old team, Alpha-Nine. Because if the band is really getting back together for this one, that means everybody—including the Spartan who Buck never wants to see again, the one who committed the ultimate betrayal of trust….

So, ONI has a top secret mission for ONI for Buck to partake in. Here’s what I think will happen. Alpha-Nine will reunite, including both Dutch (coming out of retirement) and Mickey (being freed for a time) along with Sadie and Vergil. This will tie into what occurred in Halo: Legacy of Onyx. In that novel, a Huragok is able to get behind a Guardian, and successfully shut it down! So, here’s what I think. I believe news of this gets to ONI, and they have a very special Huragok, Vergil. I think Alpha-Nine will meet up with Sadie and Vergil and will go on a mission to get Vergil to shut down a Guardian. As the synopsis says, ONI hopes to find a way to turn the tide in the conflict. I could see ONI doing a mission like this, and won’t be that shocked if this is the direction it goes. However, I could be totally wrong. What do you think, could this be the thing that could tip the tide? Let’s discuss!!

OP

That makes sense. I forgot they still had Virgil.

There’s only two issues I’d have if they did that:

  • It kind of diminishes the threat if a single engineer can shut down this massive Forerunner machine, not to mention that it can bypass the control of AI in the Domain.

  • It’s a little silly. Plus we already saw that in Legacy of Onyx so I’d like to see something different.

Plus, at this point in the story, unless Iam missing something, Cortana has used the Guardians to take over the galaxy. She could have just unleashed the Prometheans and Sentinels. She didn’t need the Guardians to conquer the galaxy with the Domain, all the AI and other Forerunner tech so taking them out isn’t as massive a game changer as you would think. With all those AI and control of Earth, she’s presumably captured or destroyed most of the UNSC fleet and disarmed most of its army who probably never mobilised. Basically shifting her really shouldn’t be very easy. I’d have assumed an armed uprising in those circumstances would end in a blood bath even if you could knock out all the Guardians.

I mean I dunno maybe that is the point? That Cortana is actually gonna escalate things fun the Guardians go down.

I think that since we saw it in Legacy of Onyx, Forbeck will bring it back and have ONI go “we need Alpha- Nine along with Virgil and it’s handler to go on a top secret mission of utmost importance.” I imagine that since there will be massive tension between Buck and Mickey, why not have Osiris carry out the mission, as they’re all very close now, and Locke being a former ONI agent.
