As we all know when Prometheans die they fade into orange then disapper on wiki it says Prometheans are a class of Warrior servants and the primary soldiers/guards of the Didact himself. They are also the highest level that a Forerunner can evolve to, appearing as orange skeletal figures encased in silvery armor, and are the primary antagonists of Halo 4.
My theory is the energy of the dead Prometheans are gathered into a sphere maybe unleash a boss or setting up something big for halo 5 or 6
To me it seems as if they don’t want their bodies to be controlled by the flood, so if they disintegrate no food for the Flood.
The symbol that represents the Didact can be seen at the end of the E3 2012 Halo 4 trailer, alluding to his involvment in the game’s plot as a possible antagonist. Also part of my theory it fits into it
they may be trying to revive Didact or something else

the forerunners left the planet some didnt make it but The Didact[1] was a Forerunner Promethean who held an extremely high status in the Forerunner society as supreme commander of the entire Forerunner military by that logic some did Forerunners did evolve into Prometheans at the flood war
The Forerunners were able to manipulate their environments and the fields they were in, and they were able to create things (like engineers) so the Prometheans are just guardians and when killed they fade into the environment of the Forerunner planet so that their resources (or energy) can be used in another way. In the latest Halo Forerunner book, the ring was never-endlessly trying to repair itself even if that meant it would become a different or smaller ring. Or destroy itself
I think you are mistaken. Like the sentinels, the Prometheans are mechanical beings controlled by an AI designed specifically to combat the flood on the various shield worlds. They are not biological, and they disintegrate upon their death so that the flood cannot control their remains.

Kinda off topic…but our names are SO similar…its scary.
on topic: I think they turn into dust so that the flood can’t eat their faces and turn them into their own.
like i said before its only a theory its not fully together
