Theory: Future Halo content will be on Infinite

So, today we got the announcement of Halo Infinite!!! I think it’s very interesting that they’ve named it Infinite. They announced the brand new engine for Halo, the Slipspace engine. Here’s a theory that came into my head and wanna see what you guys think. I think all future Halo content will release on Halo Infinite, really taking the franchise in a new direction. What do you think, could this be what Microsoft and 343 are doing, and would you be cool with it?

What do you mean by future content?

Redemption means that Halo: Infinite is not just a game, it’s a platform. We’ll get the game, but rather than wait for the next Halo game, campaign missions and multiplayer maps will continuously be added to Infinite, creating a game that is constantly growing and expanding far into the future. A service game, essentially.

Ah I see

Well they did a livestream where they mentioned that every Halo Ring has weapon emplacements on the outer ring. In this trailer, those marines have obviously been shot down ala Halo CE. So maybe the Infinity gets shot down trying to assault this Halo ring?

I actually like this theory a lot. Definitely a better theory than the theory that the title implies the Infinity will be a major part. I hope Infinite is a hub for all future Halo games, news, TV shows, etc.

So it is kinda a Halo Destiny or Halo The Division? I’m not sure about if this is good or bad.

I had this exact fear honestly. Admittedly it takes away some of the hype from new releases. Maybe equally worrisome is the ability so hardcore monetize it. I’m not a fan of the idea. I’d love for them to rename it Halo 6: Infinite, but I definitely think this is going to be something very different from what we’re all expecting, so I think it’s unlikely. Definitely not a fan of “Halo as a service” though.

I wouldn’t go that far. I doubt it’s a shared world cooperative game, which is what Destiny and The Division are. They’re both also RPG’s, Halo is not. Halo Infinite would lean more towards Spartan-Ops as an example of new story content, and Halo 5: Guardians as an example of how we’ll get new multiplayer content. After the game releases we’ll get updates for both consistently, but they’ll still be separate.

As long as they keep the single player (campaign) experience more flexible, like you can explore the Halo ring, It can be promising.

I got the exact same vibe - just based on the sparse but seemingly significant info they’ve just given (e.g. the “infinite” title and the “new and exciting territory” statement).

Given what Halo is to Microsoft (and the production time on this particular version), it makes sense that it would be the kind of game meant to produce an ongoing profit. Not sure if that means “shared world shooter”, but I wouldn’t be surprised (nor would I have a problem with) there being a base game at launch that is then continually updated for years to come with DLC and such.

If that’s the case, then I guess I won’t need to buy the new Xbox because I’ll forever have the new Halo, right? Seems like if they want to sell this new console they’re working on that Phil mentioned, they’d want to keep a Halo game or two exclusive to it.

I think the reason it’s called infinite is because it might have some open-world elements to it. Frank O’Connor said awhile back that he thought it’d be cool to make a game where you just explored a Halo ring.

I wonder if it won’t release on the Xbox One, but on the next console, which Phil Spencer confirmed they’re already working on.

I think you’ve just figured it out. There’s so much they can do with this. Halo Infinity being exclusive to the newer Xbox seems plausible. From then on there, Halo Infinity could possibly be something that continues on future Consoles but I’m not sure how that would effect how the games are played on older consoles. I think they’ve came to an understanding that people are always wanting more and more Halo content in any form of fashion. 343 did say the were being ambitious, and last time they were, they thought of MCC :eyes:. So this could be one big endless Campaign and multiplayer, with additional features Halo has had. Halo Infinite isn’t Halo 6, but Halo 6 will be included in Infinite. A continuous Halo forever . I wonder how much space this will be, or maybe there will be another way without clogging hardrive

Maybe I’m overthinking it, idk. But if this is the new direction they’re going, it could bring a lot more life into Halo franchise and become the main seller of Xbox again and attraction. Looks like they’re going all in on their flagship this time.
