This is a theory and possible minor spoiler that several of my community have approved as true but it is speculation. What I come to talk about is that in Halo 5 we have already seen in an indirect and discreet way what could be the species of the Herald. In the mission where we go to Sanghelios in one of the murals of the temple in ruins you can observe some gerogryphs of a different species, where it is also clearly noted that the Sangheili is portrayed worshiping and prostrating before this beings, where it has a clear resemblance to the Herald, although this is all that is known, it can be said that 343 did not invent the Harbinger from infinite, it was already established since Halo Guardians and maintains some continuity to the story and lore.

I don’t recall that. Could it not be the Warden Eternal with the Harbingers Helmet being so similar?
It could be, but the warden has a more robust body characteristic, but the harbinger is slim looking, as in the drawings that appear in the mission, it is not confirmed, but it is still a good theory.
It’s just a little odd to have the Elites worship an enemy of the Forerunners when they were shown worshipping the Forerunners, Guardians etc.
That could be before Harbinger species turned against the Forerunners.
