I’d like to hear thoughts based on your guys theories as to why its called infinite!
Well lets break down infinity… (thats impossible btw XD)
Infinity is not finite… continous , or unboundedly large.
A circle’s path is technically infinite, so the story could come full circle.
A game as a service with continuos content could virtually be infinite.
And the UNSC infinity is strangely named infinity … not sure what to make out of that…
Infinity may also represent “everything” or all…
Who knows, maybe its the end game of halo… like marvel’s infinity stones?
Im very sure I read something about 343 dropping the number and making halo a saga rather than a trilogy , maybe that has something to do with it.
Maybe because this will be the first Halo Game As A Service ?
Or someone just thought that " 'cuz it sounds cool & probably sells for dem kidz & let’s just let dem fans make up some wacky/deep theories on internetz & let’s just go with one or more of those explanations later on if someone asks."
My guess is that it’ll be connected to the narrative; that “Infinite” will be some aspect of the story. We saw this in the previous installment, with the Guardian Custodes being an important part of the story in Halo 5: Guardians. We’ve also seen this in other franchises: Bioshock Infinite was set in a world with infinite alternate realities. While I hope that Halo doesn’t play around with multiverse theory, I think the subtitle will be connected to the narrative in a similar fashion as in Bioshock.

Halo 5 was a live-service game. So was Halo Wars 2. Live service isn’t new to Halo with Halo Infinite.

Idk… But… Chicken nugs…
For my theory I think it’s rather simple and a little deep. It goes back to the very beginning in Halo Origins (correct if I’m wrong on the title) where Cortana talks about humanity and war and how it is constant: War is Infinite.
Wether the threat is ourselves, alien or flood, we as humans are always at war with something. And once this saga is completed another threat to humanity will arise for the need for war!
EDIT: So I just re-watched Halo Legends:Origins I and II, and boy oh boy I did not realize before how much potential connections those two short shows have to do with Cortana and Halo:5 and all her motivation to do what she is doing and why. The last time I watch Origins I and II Halo 5 wasn’t even on my radar. I now look at the “Guardians” in Halo 5 in two ways; the actual Guardians from the Forerunners and I now consider Cortana and her recruited AI minions as Guardians as well as she is just trying to end the cycle of Infinite war for humans and abroad.
A simple explanation that I’ve heard is because it’s the only Halo game for a while, and the updates are going to keep it up-to-date with infinite possibilities. Though that’s just a simple reason.
Halo: Combat Evolved got its subtitle for marketing reasons, so as Halo Infinite is a soft reboot, Microsoft probably still doesn’t want to sell a game simply titled Halo. They want a subtitle so the average consumer knows what it is (in this case, that it’s still technically a sequel).
A “Halo 6” just sounds too far in IMO. It’s not like a series like Final Fantasy where each entry is a separate story, having a story that’s so long-running + continuous might turn some new players away.
I heard in an interview or two that they wanted to ditch the number with 5 too but didn’t get to, so initially they didn’t even want Halo 5 to be called Halo 5.
So in the context of it being called Halo 6: Infinite, it could obviously be something story-related in the game’s campaign. It could also be an easy title demonstrating that the game is gonna be on-going for quite some time in terms of new content (like a lot of games attempt these days)
Because Doom is “Eternal” & Halo is “Infinite”
My theory was thought up as soon as I read the title of this forum. What is it? Infinite means Infinite Halo rings. I mean, with a series as important as Halo, why would they stop? Why would there be a final Halo game? The name “Infinite” implies that there are going to be infinite Halo games, and thus, infinite Halo rings. You thought it was crazy when in Halo 2 Johnson and Miranda discovered there were multiple Halo rings? How crazy is it really to think that there are more spread throughout the universe? We all know how big the universe is. Wait, no we don’t, because we haven’t even figured out how big space is! So if we haven’t figured out the distant range of space, it’s a possibility that we haven’t found all the Halo rings. But that’s not all, we also have to think about alternate dimensions. Is there a dimension where there are even more Halo rings, and even worse, giant onion Halo rings???
Space is infinite, Halos are infinite, Halo is infinite, Halo as a video game series is infinite.
It’s going to be the last game they create, but Infinite DLC.

Edit: I was going for Infinite Microtransactions but you fine Sir win this thread. Well done
I think it has to do with Halo expanding on its roots as a sandbox game and being a live service game. We’ll find out in another month or two hopefully.
Halo Infinite: The only halo we will ever need. Hopefully it serves as a base game that can be easily scale able so that more content can be added to the game (such as PvE) but can still fit seemlessly into the game. I guess i’m hoping too much for a Halo MMORPG (but honestly who wouldn’t want that.) I don’t think it has to be too complicated like Destiny. Giving ppl choices in how they arm themselves and how they fight PvE and PVP encounters could be a great experience.
Simple. Just ask the big green guy, and I’m not talking about the Chief.
Halo CE: Chief and tiny blue lady smash ring. SMASH!! My kind of guy
Halo I: Find tiny blue lady. Chief fix ring. FIX! Not my kind of guy
Now ring Infinite… SMASH!! My kind of guy again
I wonder how long it’s going to take for the Chief to brake it all over again… From the second he steps foot on the surface, its days are numbered. I bet within a week in in-game time the ring is in bits heading into the sun. Insurance companies will do anything to avoid paying out on this one and use the old “The Chief is not a force/act of nature” to get out of the contract.
Halo Infinite would be ‘infinite’ if it allows for a constant seamless switching of game modes without losing in game immersion once. Built around a massive single player campaign, that leads out into a character that can combine a post main campaign world with full seasonal launches of DLC campaigns to unlock and continually keep the game universe up to date.
Progression of play in truly free form sandbox environment played over the entire Halo ring itself. If it could deliver an anytime launchable sandbox PvE mission and multi-mode PvP battles arena in the context of a persistent ‘limited numbers’ MMO Halo online, that would be something. If it also included a fully playable Halo Wars game mode as a persistent real time strategy element as both PvE & PvP, a mode that impacted the actual Halo ring and gaming world that you and other players play on itself… that would be Halo Infinite.
maybe infinite halo rings?
Sounds like it’s just to be the foundation for future Halos to be a part of.
So instead of a “Halo: Infinite 2”, it’d just be a new campaign that is a part of Halo: Infinite, much like how the MCC holds all past Halos with the exception to Halo 5.
Side note… they really should just add Halo 5 to the MCC and rename it as “Halo: Legacy Collection”, even now the “Master Chief Collection” doesn’t exactly fit anymore.
