Theater: Ideas and suggestions and MORE!

Ok people, a word of warning before hand, this may be a bit of a long thread. However, if you have the time please read it all before commenting

Halo 3’s revolutionary Theater mode was quite ground breaking at the time, the ability to review and watch previous games from many angles, as well as record key moments and take screen shots, often with hilarious results.

Halo Reach’s Theater mode, quite frankly, wasn’t much an improvement in my opinion. It felt almost as if it was copy pasted at the last minute, and i don’t want Halo 4’s Theater mode to be a disaster (we all know it won’t). The purpose of this thread though, is to add ideas and new features to Theater, as this mode has been copied by other games and Halo’s Theater should up the ante once again.

Section 1)

I’ll start by listing suggestions to the standard Theater mode before moving onto the meatier part of the thread:
Rewind button, not skip backwards, but literally a rewind that can go frame by frame if needed to do.
Ability to watch videos with other players again, with player 1 having control of the video to guide how it looks.
Full HUD on the player you are viewing. In Reach you couldn’t see half of it.
Have the HUD optional, ie ON/OFF when viewing players.
Ability to control the speed of the video when recording a clip, so you can slow mo certain moments to see them better.
Ability to turn off the announcers voice (who would do it, i don’t know, that voice melts souls  ).

Section 2)

Screenshot Editor.
This new feature within Theater would be a separate part from the recording and reviewing section, and would focus solely on the editing of screen shots to create the desired effect.

Features that would exist within the editor would be things that would be available in a standard photo editor program, such as changing the tone of the picture with filters ect… to erasing certain parts of the picture, to changing colours of certain parts and applying text to the image. Layers and even copy paste functions could exist to get the desired part of an image to place elsewhere.

This brings me to the next section:

Section 2.5)

Comic Creator.
This comic creator could be a light hearted feature for all you comic lovers out there. By utilising the edited screen shots you have made, you would be able to “string” these images into panels decided by you. This would make flowing comics with effects added so that it isn’t a stationary piece of work.

And no comic is complete without speech bubbles. These would be inserted and then a message would be typed out within them, so you have your very own Halo comic. An option would be the ability to voice record segments using the headset or kinect function, to further create a more fun experience for the user.

As with the file share search, there would be a new section for comics, where you can rate and tag ect… so everybody can see what users come up with!

Section 3)

Video Clip Editor.
Just like the Image Editor, except this would apply to the moving clips that you have taken in Theater! Filters and edits would take place, slowmo added in certain places and able to focus on certain parts. This would be fairly simplified, as it would be difficult to do by controller. Voice record would be an option via mic, so people can create their very own montages! (ps, add weapon lowering online!)

Section 3.5)

Montage Creator.
Spinning off from the comic creator, this montage creator would allow decent players that lack the equipment to record their games, to create their own videos and share them.

You would place together video clips, and control the transitions from video to video, as well as creating their own introduction and credits. Soundfiles could also be overlayed, by either having them on your hard drive or some other way. This way people can create some -Yoink- videos without being a computer wizard, and branch out to a wider community that like this sort of thing!

The Montages would have their own section within the file share search, with maybe an option to upload to youtube!

Thanks a lot for reading guys, i’ve been waiting to write this since i got thinking at work, and i hope that you people come up with more ideas to really make Halo 4’s “Theater” mode unique among games!

We need to be able to watch theatre with more ppl in the party again

I don’t think it’s a bad idea. I’m just not sure how hard it would be to implement something like that (Sections 2-3) and work without problems.
