The Xbox One X

I wanted to bring this up to other folks that watched E3…
And I just wanted to point out, what do they call the next xbox console? The Xbox One XX? The Xbox Two?

I think the next Xbox console would probably be a new generation so it’d have a new name entirely.

They will call it something else. It doesn’t have to be a linear name path.

We can only hope (:

The console was really underwhelming. Not worth the price if you have an existing Xbox One, or if you’re not willing to get a 4K tv.

I think by the time MS a ready to push a new console out, they’ll probably be transitioning out of the “Xbox One” family name and into something Xbox “Else”. I could be wrong, just guessing. Xbox N+1? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m hoping that other developers will, instead of pushing 4k, rather opt for frame rate.

I live in the UK. How much is a 4k television? Aren’t they insanely expensive?

I don’t know about the UK specifically, but in EU in general you can find 4K TVs starting at a bit above 400€, which isn’t too much. Of course you won’t get the most amazing color reproduction, HDR, or anything special, but the resolution itself doesn’t cost that much. And of course, it’s debatable whether the resolution by itself is worth it if you have a perfectly functional 1080p TV.

Xbox One X is a terrible handle. Good grief.

“One” is an albatross, a holdover from Mattrick’s reign and effort to create a single TV device that does everything.

I think they’ll put the name out to pasture with the next generation.

I heard a rumor the next Xbox console will be named “The Original Xbox” just to further -Yoink- with the fanbase.

Apparently there was confusion around the Wii U and some customers thought it was just an extension to the Wii. I would hope Xbox One X doesn’t have that issue.

No doubt.

Microsoft loves using what’s hot at the time, so it will be something along the lines of “Xbox Reality” (nod to AR, VR) or something equally silly.

That might have had more to do with putting emphasis on the tablet controller than with the name of the console.

Since they want Win 10 to be the last Windows, I think they’ll stick with the current gen at least a little while longer. They prob won’t release a new gen until the Xbox One (S or normal) can’t handle the new games anymore (like the 360 could still run games like GTA 5, Black Flag etc.) and they’ll prob let you upgrade your XOX to fit in with the next gen for maybe 2 years.

And the next Xbox will obviously be called xXBoxOneXx

Xbox One Xbox. But seriously why put an X on the end to signifiy that it’s an “X” console, when it’s already an “X” box? There is an Xbox One, and now there will be an X Xbox One. Honestly, Xbox Two would be fine. Just my opinion.

This was actually my first thought upon hearing the name

Nope, that would be wrong and total non-sense, since people would associate a completely new console generation with it,
which is not the case.
Just like the Pro for the PS4, the Xbox One X *(not X Xbox One)*is simply an alternative version of the same console generation.

Consider it from the point of view that there are now two models of Xbox One, the S and the X. The letter is just used to differentiate between the models. They’re not calling it the Xbox Two because they don’t want to give the impression that it’s a replacement for the less powerful console. I don’t really think it’s a bad naming choice.

Both of you are telling me that the Xbox One X is actually NOT a new console generation? That’s where I was mistaken, so thank you for clarifying. Let me point out that I’ve never heard of a Pro for the PS4, or the Xbox One S. I’m not as familiar with the Microsoft/Sony stuff that’s going on (I pay more attention to Nintendo, for better or worse), and thinking it’s a new type of Xbox was my automatic mistaken assumption. But that’s my own fault for not paying attention, much like the people who thought a Wii U is just another Wii, I guess. Except in reverse. My bad.

However, the fact that they chose the letter X still rubs me the wrong way, because the system is already an “X” box…
