The writing of Spartan Ops has been terrible.

This has to be the worst story and plot ever done in a Halo game. The writing is absolutely atrocious and full. The characters are terribly done and written. I hate everyone because there is no one likeable. If 343 continue Spartan Ops then I hope they kill Majestic Team off completely and start afresh.
Sarah Palmer has so much -Yoink- potential but she’s just handled extremely poorly. Halsey is shown no respect at all and is treated like a -Yoink- - I’d enjoy her scenes so much more if Palmer actually respected and liked Halsey but that fact that she doesn’t makes her so uninteresting. Lasky has so much potential too but he’s a weak man who’s more like a temporary captain - I want to see some Picard and Kirk moments from this guy like him doing some risky things and being more knowledgable and demanding - he’s not Captain material.
There’s no tense moments, no flashes of brilliance, no intelligence within this drab story. It’s all generic ness with some relatedness to the Halo verse.
Who the hell is even writing this? Because it sure as hell is not the campaign writers as the Campaign moments, plot, writing and overall story DESTROYS Spartan Ops in every way. It feels like some low quality inexperienced and uninspired people are writing this. It’s barely cohesive and is so CONVOLUTED.
Why not focus each episode on a single character to DEVELOP them instead of an overall mediocre story arch. One episode in Palmer where her past comes back to her and we learn more about her, an episode where one of the surviving Cadets from Corbulo(FUD) comes to the Infinity and we get development from Lasky, one where Halsey flashbacks to training the Spartan 2’s. Why not more links and cameo’s to the Halo verse?

and for gods sake - kill Majestic Team, they are the Jar Jar Binks of the Halo Universe.

I’ve started to like majestic in the recent episodes.

i think the reason there is no tense moments and things like that is because the cinematics arn’t long enough and they have to fit alot of content into a 5 minute video.

Hopefully in season 2 the cinematics will be longer

I agree completely.

Majestic team sucks. Their characters suck. They are the epitome of stupid shallow soldier. Spartan Thorne and lasky are the only ones I like in Spartan OPs.

I wholeheartedly agree.

It is literally like being strapped to a wounded elephant being pushed and shoved through a mile of nails and knives with words and phrases like ‘eggheads’, ‘hingeheads’ and 'Crimson could use some more supplies" written on them, only to have it keep moaning and groaning to be let free to do its own thing, to heal and come back stronger than ever.

Instead, it will be pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and pushed and eggheads and pushed and pushed and pushed until it FINALLY DIES…

… and Halo 5 is released.

The only question is as to whether we will get the same thing again, or something much better.

Awesome. I guess I’ll be the only one on these forums that actually likes the storyline to Spartan Ops.

You’re not alone. I actually think there are a lot of masterfully written plot elements and tense moments. I just hope that the second season will have slightly longer cutscenes to make up for the slightly shallowed elements this season.

I don’t mind the spops story at all, however, what grinds my gears is the fact that Elites are made out to be simple canon fodder as if they haven’t trained a single day in their life. It’s like they signed up on some sort of exploration mission with no intent of destruction or hostility.

While I hated the armor style & their base look in Reach, I have to admit Bungie did a good job of making them look intimidating. One thing they did get right and I plenty approve of is how tall they were and the fact that we couldn’t communicate with them.

I’ll have to agree, Spartan Ops has been a very disappointing experience for me. The story they are trying to tell feels unimportant and more like an unnecessary spin-off. While episode 9 finally caught my attention (want to know why? Here’s a hint: SOMETHING HAPPENED!), it just bugs me to watch a small squad of Spartan-IV soldiers (inferior to both Spartans-II and III) kill Elites and Promethean Knights like if they were nothing.

Even Lasky, who I liked in Halo 4 Campaign, feels boring and uninteresting. He literally lost all his charm in Spartan Ops. All he does is wash Palmer’s dishes and prepare her dinner, that’s it.

I don’t know… Spartan Ops had a lot of potential, but it just feels like an unnecessary spin-off or sequel that ruins all the charm of the original story. Hey, 343i, I won’t get mad if all this is just a dream. When Requiem explodes or whatever, and everyone dies, just make Lasky open his eyes, and realize that all this was a dream (more like a nightmare).

Season 1 of Spartan Ops was great at first, weeks pass and it’s the same thing over and over again. Season 2 actually is good now, but the characters are like high school kids.

“You’re not alone. I actually think there are a lot of masterfully written plot elements and tense moments”.

  1. Eggheads.
  2. How tense can something be if you simply get up (from… death, yeah, I know. Weird) and carry on?

‘Masterfully written plot’ and ‘tense’ do not apply whatsoever to Spartan Ops.

They were only likeable in Episode 9 but that’s because they didn’t speak at all and didn’t show their awful a-hole personalities. And the length of the Cinematics aren’t the problem - it’s how they are handled. Halo’s Cinematics are about the same length yet those are so much better.

There should be less talking during the gameplay, it gets annoying listening to palmer telling us to do obvious stuff. Also, I now officaly hate the word egghead.

Agreed Thorne is the only passable one and Lasky is likeable only because of FUD.

Mass Effect is masterfully written. Halo 2 and 4 were masterfully written. SPOPS is terribly written.

I agree about the Elites and armour.

I think the writing is ok. It’s nowhere near as good as the campaign, but it isn’t horrible. Something tells me it’ll tie into something bigger.

My gripe about Spartan Ops is the gameplay. It’s fun and hilarious when playing with friends, and some levels are a fun challenge soloing, but it seriously needs a checkpoint revert system. This whole “immortal Spartan” thing is annoying and makes me feel stupid when I die.

Just remember they didn’t have to make SpOps. We’re essentially getting a secondary campaign made up of short cinematics and mission based levels FOR FREE. SpOps is just a bridge to the next game or maybe another season of SpOps.

It could of been worse you know, just saying.Still, the dialogue has or was at least rather bad, but it is slowly getting better.Like many i would like to just say “make it better” and see it magically get better over night, but that wont happen. All we can do is give 343 useful feedback that they can use and implement into the episodes for our future enjoyment.

As i have said,

It could have been worse.

They don’t HAVE to do anything, they are producers, and we consumers. They are not doing us some kind of “favor”, they’re doing it because they want to sell their product by putting things in we want. The current level of wring in Spartan Ops is not what we want, therefore we should tell them so they can fix it and we will continue to buy their products.
