The Wraith is not a tank

So I was thinking about it and the Wraith is actually a self propelled gun or SPG as the definition of a SPG is a gun (like a plasma mortar) mounted on a mobile base. In light o this I think it would be much better if we saw it play as a long range bombardment unit than a super heavy ghost.

I just thought of it as a purple catapult, seeing the way it fired its shots.

It would be nice to see it as a bombardment vehicle since that’s what it is used for canonically but then 343 would probably have to come up with a new vehicle to match the scorpion and a new vehicle to match the wraith

Is the scarab a tank?

Well the UNSC already has the Kodiak that matches the Wraith.

I thought that it was just a covenant version of the tank

True but they would have to implement it in the regular fps games if they choose for the wraith to be a true artillery vehicle which would be weird balancing since artillery can really hurt another team if someone experienced is using it but it would be cool to see it

Well technically no actually since a tank must have these things:
Armor: Yes scarab has that in abundance
Firepower: Yes Yes and Yes
Mobility: this is a really interesting one because while the scarab is very dexterous it does not meet this pillar as it can get bogged down in mud. The only real way to meet this category is to either hover or have treads.

The covenant does have the blister back which is a very a in between for the locust and scarab which could a be a cool tank (although is is also not a tank but for a different reason)

The blister back was probably made to counter the kodiak which both are artillery pieces, it could be a Swiss army knife banshee though with being able to transform from air to ground

That actually is how the Wraith is employed in the extended lore. It’s used as a mobile mortar platform. That just wouldn’t be nearly as fun in a game setting, so it’s treated more as a main battle tank for the benefit of the player.

It’s big and it’s bulky and it has a devastating weapon. It’s a tank.

I prefer to think that if it beats everything, it’s probably tank.

personally I think the wraith is a mobile artillery gun but with heavy armour so you could easily use it for a tank role… it doesn’t fire in straight line like a scorpion does but it is a good anti infantry and area of effect main weapon and 2 small auto cannons (H2) or plasma cannon (H3) for when enemies get too close… its basically an all round versatile vehicle but its main purpose is artillery…

No see the wraith actually by definition is not a tank. Because a tank must hav armor firepower and mobility and a SPG is a mobile plotting with a artillery gun of mortar (like a plasma mortar) on it so it actually (like its UNSC designation) is a SPG

yeah I don’t think it was a tank I just thought it was some sort of artillery platform that could be used in other roles on the battlefield… personally I think the scarab is more tank like than the wraith is… but the wraith has different variations like the anti aircraft gun ( cant remember the name of it)… that’s just my opinion though and I’m open minded and like discussions about stuff like this

Agreed this stuff is super fun to talk about. The name of the Wraith with the AA guns is actually the AA wraith lol. The scarab is almost a tank but as I have already posted on this thread it technically is mot a tank lol the truest from do a covenant tank is probably the locust although that is also not technically a tank.

ya know I did think locust at one point but after going over the (tank like) vehicles I found that there are so many covvy vehicles that could be used as a tank role… unlike the UNSC that has the Scorpion and the Grizzly they are tanks but the covvies have so many vehicles that could possibly be used as tanks…

I thought that wraith was always known as a plasma mortar. Only being compared to the scorpion, because it’s the covenants equal. And then somewhere that the Scarab was called a tank. I’m not so sure anymore
