I’m just thinking that instead of remaking any more maps that are already great; why not remake some of the not so good maps and make them better. I would love to see a remake of Backwash from Halo 2. I think Certain Affinity could put some really cool aesthetics in to make it really come alive. What do you guys think?
No thanks, Zenith and Relic are horrible enough for me.
great logic
They have already made the worst maps. Zanzibar, Relic, Ascenion, Wizard.
Yes, we all have our reservations about the maps chosen to be remade. Zanzibar, Wizard, and Ascension were all iconic fan favorite maps so they seemed like fair choices. I’d have to agree with Relic though… Not a fan, but maybe the remake will change my mind! I just think instead of taking a great map like Lockout, and turning it into Lockdown; majority of people would still pick Lockout as the better map. Most of these remakes took great or good maps and made them alright, nothing special, still good but not as good as the original . I want to see them take a map that nobody gave the time of day 10 years ago and turn it into something amazing.

Thanks for the positive feedback, I thought I was digging my grave there for a bit…
The phrase “you can’t polish a turd” springs to mind here.
Realistically, if a map is terrible; how are you meant to improve it in such a way that it becomes good without losing whatever the original map had as a unique entity.

To that I would say look at the remake of Midship from the Halo 5 Beta. It doesn’t play anything like the old midship really, but you can still feel its presence. If scrapping major flaws in an old map helps with the reproduction of it then by all means I say go for it. If it’s anything like you said and it becomes fundamentally different, then hey! We have ourselves a new map! I don’t think anyone would complain about getting a new map in the rotation.

Well put. It would be nice to have some new “good” maps in the rotation. Maybe Elongation or Beaver Creek could be remade.
this is some awful logic…
“hey! remember all those maps you hated from before? now you can hate them in more detailed and updated graphics and lighting!”

Before you post just to be funny… You should actually look at the discussions that have transpired and I won’t waste my time explaining it all again…
Hmm…I think pretty much any map can be turned into a good, fun map if it’s paired with the appropriate gametype and gameplay mechanics. Likewise, the gameplay of any map can be ruined if it doesn’t get paired with the right gametype. I’m greedy, so I’d pick “remake them all,”
My logic runs like this, by the way: a map is simply a playable space. The developers created that space and have the entire Halo sandbox to work with. Surely there’s got to be something which can make that playable space fun. It all depends on how inventive you are, and if the developers stubbornly insist on sticking to a certain gametype when it quite clearly doesn’t work with that map…well, it’s no wonder the Halo commjnity hates that map.
My question is, what gametypes were commonly paired with Relic? Because if those same gametypes, unaltered, are paired with the Relic remake–then we’re going to be stuck with the same old map that nobody wants to play.
Oh, and just to make things clearer, when I see the words “map design” I just think of the static, unchangeable parts of the map itself. It’s only when I see the phrase “map variants” that I start thinking about weapon, vehicle, player and grenade spawn locations–for me that sort of thing fits more under “the sandbox.”
You must be a 343 employee with logic like that.
The only thing terrible about Zenith are the spawns, Red team should be spawning Big Tower instead of Banshee. Blue team has a way easier time getting all power weapons easily and it literally dictates the match.
I dont care a whole lot because they put way too much texture in the new maps. Its hard to see players. I stick to my H2 Classic and H3.

This is essentially what I’ve been driving at. It seems these maps would have been approved in the first place because they had potential (based on interviews with Max Hoberman). So maybe the failure wasn’t on the map itself but instead the weapons on map or game variants on the map. I’d have to agree that every map has the potential to be great as you said, and that’s why I’d like Certain Affinity to try and tackle a tougher challenge as we’ve been discussing.

With whom are you referring? Please use the quotation option when you are posting counter-productive feedback as it will help me defend someone else’s constructive criticism or positive feedback next time.
I sorta agree I mean there are a lot of maps that don’t get any love. I can’t remember the last time I have a match of unpopular maps like Turf, Backwash, Foundation, Elongation, etc.
Instead of remaking bad maps, just create new maps instead?
