But they do die. Most of the Spartan 2 are killed by the Covenant. They are set up as a dying breed in the books.
The Spartan 3 are ultimately just delaying the inevitable.
The Spartan 4 did nothing to stop Cortana. Who cares if you kill Prometheans by the score whose shells can be rebuilt faster than the Spartans can destroy them.
The Spartans win because of heroism and luck. Brute force and the numbers game is always on the side of the villains. They will win the war of attrition. That’s just the type of story it is.
Because we get that f#####g s##t all the time in every freaking SCI FI narrative but in THIS ONE it was ALREADY ESTABLISHED that that is not how things work and that lead to POOR WRITING
Well in the OG trilogy the covenant were absolutely slapping humanity
It’s a bit heavy handed having him demolish three Spartan 2 and then the Master Chief pretty easily.
With Thanos, they had built that character up before he fought the Hulk and Thor so it isn’t jarring. Plus, there’s only one Thanos and he’s not a known quantity. But we have met Brute Chieftains before.
People didn’t complain about the Didact and Harbinger handling the Chief for this reason. They were unknown forces and so you could establish that they could overpower the Chief without it coming across as forced.

Atriox is a unique brute. He’s stronger and smarter than any other. Also the only Spartans he hasn’t kill are the S-IIs mabey S-IIIs during the human covenant war and after. He has taken a number of S-IVs lives but I wouldn’t compare any S-IV to a S-II or a S-III CAT 2 for that matter.

No one denies that but in the original trilogy the chief did not get slapped senseless to set up a baddy

He is not a just a brute chieftan, he is literally the best brute warrior we have ever seen XD
Hundreds when your opponent has millions of soldiers.
And it doesn’t make sense how the sangheilj are ment to be the spartans equals yet…. They get slapped around in both the lore and gameplay, even the zealots. It. Doesn’t. Make. Sense.
And all those soldiers except grunts are better than humans in ckmbat.
And many of em are Spartans equals at least physically
Actually we knew from halo ce that a forerunner in full armor is much stronger than a spartan per 343 (he makes a comment on the way to get the index)
And even then with Harbinger she relies on warping because she knows if chief gets his hands on her she is toast so she uses her superior tech and your can tell she pushes the chief but still there is not real damage done

The point is atriox is a better warrior than the chief. Chief is never and has never been the best. Xytan jar watinree woudl have beaten him.
Yeah no…sangheili even wanted to get the humans to join the covenant because they realized they were great warriors…not because they were barely better than grunts
Sangheili are NOT phiaically on par with spartans wearing mjolnir not even close. They are DANGEROUS sure but not on par with them. The books make that quite clear.
Yep pretty much…that’s why he moved to Deep Space 9 to sort of get some respect. But yeh it does feel like the Banished was mostly useless in the campaign and made it feel like there not the same clever brutes that held their own against the Covenant. 
And you can cheerlead for the bad guys like an edgy emo kid as much as you want but it remains poor writing given established lore and that is not about to change

By all means, have the Chief be Noble with Esharum as he was still a soldier questioning himself. Have a bit of sympathy for Doisac because he feels responsibility for that; unlike Atriox. These are admirable traits that speak to the humanity and compassion of the character in contrast to the Banished. It’s very wholesome.
But, I would hate any kind of redemption or Arbiter style team up with Atriox. He killed everybody on the Infinity. He wants to fire a Halo ring at Earth. He leads an army of flesh eating monsters. He’s the reason Cortanas dead. I want Chief to go Doomguy on this Brute.
