The Weekly Challenge Is Impossible

Win 3 CTF games in Ranked Arena. As an Australian player, the latest update has made it so queue times for Ranked as astronomical if it even lets me play. Not to mention that CTF is only 2 of 12 games in Ranked.
As a casual player, how am I meant to achieve this goal? I’ve managed to play 9 ranked games over before the weekend, and since then I can’t even get a game.
I’m at one game of CTF played, and won. But I can’t see how this weekly is achieveable for us casual downunder players.
Let’s not even start on the Killjoy Medals from last week. Please don’t be any good at fiesta, becasue if you are, no one else will be alive long enough to get 5 kills in a row to allow you to try and be the one that kills them for the killjoy.

That’s not even the only issue. Being Ranked is an issue itself.

Always a good time when 343 makes challenges that force people to play Ranked, so Ranked matchmaking gets flooded with unranked players that appear to have never held a controller before in their lives. If you’re one of those Onyx chasing players that care about your rank, well great news! 343’s latest update to server matchmaking now pairs Onyx players with unranked, bronze, silver, and gold, so you can enjoy a sub 10% chance of winning, and lose that rank you grinded so hard to get. You’d be better off with bots.

People who are interested in Ranked play should get their own rewards, completely seperate from the casual players such as myself who just want XP and a weekly item. To decentivise bad play, your progress in trial matches doesn’t begin, and you may need to be a certain rank before you can begin making progress on your rewards, thus encouraging playing for rank first. Even then this doesn’t address the fundamental problem of 343 Industries making utterly baffling design choices.

Once again I’m astonished at how creative people are in avoiding bans. Feeding enemies to end non-CTF matches sooner so they can play the mode they need. Even then, the creatively bankrupt have the right idea: I once won a match because all four opponents walked out. It was Oddball, so of course they weren’t going to stick around; it requires a minimum of 3 minutes and 20 seconds that could be better spent queueing for a mode that will get you your weekly.

I’ll say this much: I’ve been extremely lucky to have teams that care about winning CTF. Other modes are hit and miss as said before, but out of the two rare CTF matches I’ve had, both have been wins. I hope I don’t jinx it by saying I just need one more.

Just imagine being someone trying to get Onyx, but your randoms keep feeding the enemy or quitting, because they just want CTF.

343 sabotaged Ranked matchmaking with forced objective challenges AND the new matchmaking update. They are consistently great at making horrible decisions.

I spent around an hour off and on searching for a ranked match today and couldnt even get a single one, so theres that.

It was sometimes taking 2+ minutes yesterday on a Sunday afternoon in the UK to find a match. Other times it would find one in 30 seconds. Seems very random to me.

The long waits did make me worry about the game’s population though.

If you can’t even find a match in Australia I think that’s very unfair to lock the reward behind such a challenge.

I agree. Just trying to get a capture the flag match is near impossible. Then when you do, good luck winning it. Especially when you’re playing against higher rank players due to a failed matchmaking system. I have completed every weekly challenge up until this week. I would say out of 25 plus games, only 2 have been capture the flag. Not going to spend all week trying to complete this challenge playing a mode I dislike, due to poor rotation and matchmaking. This type of crap encourages quitting. People load in and see it’s not capture the flag and then bail. I love this game and with just a few changes it could be so much better. I’m grateful for the changes that have been made so far. Please don’t put ranked play challenges in the weekly challenges. As stated in previous post, please give ranked players their own set of challenges. My suggestions would be, to complete three capture the flag matches, kill the enemy flag carrier 3 times, and increase the probability of a capture the flag match occurring. That’s if you’re going to keep it ranked. Just make it quickplay instead of ranked and that would pretty much solve the problem. I think this weeks weekly challenge item should be made available to everyone due to the fact of it’s poor implementation.

It shouldn’t be a Ranked challenge at all, and it would be easier if we just had a Ball and Flag objective playlist like MCC.

343 should just take out Quickplay, and make 6 playlists.

Slayer - Slayer, Tactical Slayer (random variant), Fiesta, Attrition, etc

Objective - CTF, 1 Flag, Oddball, Strongholds, Stockpile, etc

Action Sack - Speedflag, Speedball, Speedpile, Attrition Dodgeball, Shotty Snipers, Rocket Neutral Flag, Death Swords, FFA Juggernaut Oddball, etc

FFA - FFA Slayer, FFA Oddball, FFA Fiesta, FFA Elimination, FFA KotH Stronghold, etc

BTB - BT Slayer, BT CTF, BT 1 Flag, BT Neutral Flag, BT Total Control, BT Super Fiesta, BT Heavies

Ranked - Slayer, Strongholds, Oddball

All of these modes are already either in the game, or possible by either changing Custom Games settings, or 343 making very minor tweaks. They could get these playlists going in a week if they wanted to.

i haven’t complained too much about challenges since they reworked them to be more natural. But this decision to make the locked weekly what it is, is totally asinine. If you can’t filter game types in a play list, don’t make the weekly a specific game mode. It’s also literally the least likely one to be played at that (which is sad because i really like CTF). This one has actually really pissed me off. It’s one thing to have “win two odd ball” in ur normal line up, you have others to get through while working at it, but this is just stupied.

Hard agree, can’t win if you can’t get the game type… 1 in the last 10 matches.

I’ve just done 24 ranked matches, 3 of them where ranked CTF. Won one, lost two because I had 3 players in my team who never ever played ranked before (I guess), so we got shredded. STOP making ranked challenges, this is horrible! Funny thing is 343 said the challenges would be easier from now on.

Agreed. This challenge is completely futile. Would only work if there was a CTF exclusive playlist. Waiting hours to play one CTF match… and then having to win the match relying on your teammates. Just utter nonsense. What were they thinking?! Got through ALL the other challenges on Monday night, not knowing this P.O.S. ultimate challenge was next. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN, I WOULDN’T HAVE EVEN BOTHERED WITH THE INITIAL CHALLENGES.

Would some of you pease stop trying to take away one of the few ranked rewards us players who enjoy ranked can get through the mode? Nearly every unlock in the game is available through social play, and ranked players have very few rewards for them.

Instead of saying “remove ranked from all challenges” like I keep seeing allover the forums, can’t we all just advocate for improvements to the challenges/better ways to play modes needed for challenges instead?

Ranked focused rewards were my favs in MCC, and I want them to also exist in Infinite.

Do you play solo or do you have a fireteam?

Infinite is the first game since H3 that I’ve actually gotten to play in a consistent fireteam with my buddies again. Other than some occasional games of H5 WZ Firefight none of them liked the MP in Reach, H4, or H5. So our squad is only finally playing together again consistently in Infinite.

Edit: I’m still playing more solo than in a squad, but it’s nice getting games with them again. And it’s nice finally being on the 4-top instead of soloing against the 4-top :rofl:

I think these challenges with randoms are where the RNG really comes into play! But without lobbies and stuff it’s hard to meet people at the moment XD
All my friends quit, (only 2) and one of them was a Halo hypeman so $160 for game and creds because ‘this was gonna be the game’.
Then the halo hype friend didn’t even beat the campaign and dropped it along with my other bud.
Then I solo q’d for 2 months and dropped it for the moment as well, I think solo q and no avenue to make nice with strangers in a good amount of time makes the challenges that much harder.

In H5’s solo/duo playlist, I usually tried to get a temp fireteam together. At the end of a match, I’d invite the best 3 players in the game to my fireteam, and if no one joined after like 30 seconds I’d just que up.

You can usually end up with at least one other player for a couple games who at least knows how to rotate well. The best is when you can get a random squad of 4 getting W’s in ranked without anyone really having to mic up :rofl:.

That works pretty well to get temp squads together in MCC H3 ranked too

I’m with you, I took my time getting the challenges only to find out at the end of the week that the challenge to get the ultimate is to win 3 CTF. I had only 24 hours left to try and get 3 wins, I get to 2 wins with 12 hours left to go, and then no CTF matches. I might have gone a dozen matches in a row with no CTF. If the devs are going to make you win CTF, at least guarantee that you’ll get a match. there’s about 12 maps, even if you rotated through all maps at least you should get 2 CTF games. Got to platinum rank, and still missing one CTF win.
