The weapon model feature is being wasted

It’s a pretty huge disappointment that weapon attachments are treated the way they are in Infinite.

Not only are you incapable of equipping multiple models at the same time, such as the AR’s eagle frame with one of the alternate muzzles. But even if you could? That’s not what model should be used for.

Model should be a full reskin of the weapon. Similar to some of the better Destiny ornaments, where it drastically changes the overall appearance of the weapon. You should be able to equip the Halo 3 Assault Rifle as a model, or the Halo 4 Battle Rifle, the ODST or Gunfighter Magnum over the Sidekick, or the Reach Sniper etc. Model should be used as a full weapon reskin primarily for importing old weapon models into the game as sweet references, or creating entirely new cool alternate skins for them. That would sell so much better than the current bits and bobs they have put out so far.

I honestly feel like that’s the long term plan. Otherwise they would have it broken up for example with vehicles.

Front bumper, Rear Bumper, Windows, side, etc.

I think legendary stuff will completely change the model.

My thoughts exactly!

Honestly this is what I thought when I saw the slot for the first time!

I clearly expected more than was potentially implied :unamused:

One could argue that straying too far from the core design is bad for readability and overall gameplay.

Imagine you fighting somebody and not knowing what weapon they are actually using, that sort of thing.

If your close enough to tell if it’s a halo infinite AR or a halo 3 AR you should probably melee them.

Too far sure, but a Halo 3/CE design for the AR instead of the Reach design skills be different, but still read as an AR to people.

Maybe they could only have it appear different for allies and the player.

I was expecting to see things like a golf club Gravity Hammer or a katar Energy Sword.

I thought in the beta that it was supposed to be that, Weapon Skins from different Halo games.

I mean that makes sense for maybe the first week or two for a dedicated player, but you would learn the model variations, right?

Also, they have similar silhouettes anyways, it’s not like they’d make an AR variation that is a pistol held way out in front of you teacup grip style.

As I mentioned the idea came mainly from Destiny. Where ornaments can drastically change the appearance of a weapon, but it won’t change the actual shape in any drastic way, or general design direction.

The SPNKR would always be double barrelled with a big box in the middle for example, but it might have smooth barrels, an enclosed box, and a simpler grip design similar to CE’s and 2’s.

A weapon can drastically change in appearance without losing the unique silhouette we’ve all come to associate with it.

Even if they did something drastic, like a single-bladed energy sword for example, it would be pretty easy to tell that what you’re looking at is an Energy Sword, based on the player’s stance and the glow.
