The weapon drills are crazy out of whack

I understand that some of this stuff is going to be subjective to different people’s strengths and weaknesses, but there’s some that are so easy to 3 star it makes me wonder if someone forgot a digit on the end of the score, and there’s some that i don’t understand how you’re physically supposed to get the 3 star for it.

Case in point, i have 3 star on BR, AR, and sniper rifle, among others- but i can NOT get the 3 star for the ravager on ravager drill 3. Can’t do it. I can get to 17k points, need 22k for rank 3. It’s nuts.

Does anyone have a video showing how to aim this thing? the ravager can kill in two bursts now, but it’s still arced, and the reticle isn’t exactly intuitive.

Most weapon drill 3* aren’t possible. I think it’s by design, because it’s more like a benchmark test to challenge yourself rather than an actual achieving factor.

There’s also alot of luck involved to a 3* because some strafing AIs get caught on objects that have been moved and their AI bugs, some spawn and don’t start moving until 2s later. So there is a small RNG factor to it.

Ultimately I think the weapon drill challenges are pointless in helping a player master a weapon beyond grinding into the player the basics of how to use each weapon. But now that we have endless mode, we can just grind in that mode instead of the drill challenges.

i would believe it was by design if they were consistently difficult or even borderline impossible- i got the 3star snipe drill 3 on the first try. It took me an hour to get drill 2 for the sniper.

EDIT- agreed, by the way, on the biggest purpose of the drills being to teach the basic function. Problem is when mastery of the function should yield 3 stars, but it looks basically impossible to get. Enemies who are strafing at a certain distance can move faster than your ravager projectiles can reach them, and that means it takes me 3-5 bursts to kill them on average. And i’m about 500-600 points shy of the next tier. it’s nuts.

Yeah some of the Weapon drills aren’t well thought out. Like the Plasma Pistol drill teaches players to kill with it even though you will almost never do that. I wish they were more set up like obstacle courses.

They’re good for learning damage values though.

EDIT 1: I managed to get a Plasma Pistol 3 star.

EDIT 2: So I went back and managed to 3 star literally every challenge. Some are a little wonky but it’s really not that hard.

I have redone “Ravager 3” and got 3 stars on my second attempt. My tips are… 1. Strafing 2. Reloading 3. Aiming. Strafe to make it easier to land your shots (follow their movement in the same direction and stand still when they do). I reload after every kill to avoid overheating the Ravager and save more time to kill (look for the “vent” pop up, you can get 1 more shot after this pop up then it overheats and lose more time to kill, try not to overheat a single time!) Aiming and strafing are connected… aim at the bots and shoot when you think you won’t miss, missing too many shots will take away too much “time to kill” from you… resulting in a low score and a frustrating experience.

Try these 3 tips out and maybe try some more tips I don’t know about from other Halo gamers! :slight_smile:

PS The Ravager overheats easily, I don’t recommend you reload after each kill with non overheating weapons (BR, AR etc.) For “non overheating” weapons it might be a good move to reload when a bot doesn’t spawn on-screen (spawned off-screen), you can use your reload time when searching for the next bot that’s in the opposite area.

To you or anyone else that might be working on obtaining 3 stars for all drills… it’s crucial you don’t overheat your weapon on “Plasma Pistol 3”, overheating once might mean game over and I strongly recommend the tip to avoid overheating a single time for this drill.

I have managed to attain all drills at 3 stars on Xbox with my Elite Series 2 controller (slight advantage) I’m sure this can be achieved without controller paddles too, don’t give up!!

i’m already following those tips, but they ARE good tips. I did NOT realize the ravager gets HEADSHOT DAMAGE.

How do you use the reticle? like, there’s a left bar, a right bar, and a vertical bar with a diamond like pattern- i know with the hydra on dumbfire mode uses the bars on the reticle to line up with the runners to get easy accurate fire, but i can’t figure out how i’m supposed to use the ravager’s reticle.

When I have to adjust my vertical aim I’ll pay attention to how far off my shots are then adjust by looking at the “diamond like patterns” in the centre, adjusting your vertical aim fast will save you time, with practice you’ll get the hang of adjusting your vertical aim fast/faster. Horizontal aim my strafing helps me a lot, I don’t pay much attention to the reticle when adjusting horizontally. Vertical adjustment is the only time I’ll look closely at the reticle because everything needs to happen fast. With the tips people share I’m sure you’ll achieve your 3 stars! I beat my record today on Ravager - 3, my final score came in at 31,300… 343i really want you to get to learn these weapons, I had a tough time with a good amount of drills, keep retrying, you’ll all get there!

did some testing; i consistently get about 2000 more points when using controller, so i’m wondering if the established point values aren’t set for controllers as default. Also, i was not aware that ‘tactical reloads’ take less time than full reloads.

For those who don’t know: if you reload the AR when there’s still a round or two left in the magazine, reloading is 1.5 seconds. If you reload when empty, it takes 2 seconds. this means you can get 4 tactical reloads in the time it takes to do 3 normal reloads, which gives you more time shooting the target.

Switching to controller raised my score by 2000 points. it’s a 360 gamestop brand cheapo controller whose right bumper doesn’t work. It’s… kinda depressing.

I honestly haven’t done any of the drills since the flight. Maybe I’ll give it another go. Do the weapons in the drills get updated with the tweaks that come along? If so, does that reset your score/stars? Should it?

Yeah. It’s wild how much better controller is. Unless you’re an absolute monster on KB/M, you need to use controller to be competitive at all.

I don’t think they were changed!

EDIT: it does humor me how folks assume PC players are using KB/M a lot but… nah, most of us play controller.

I ignore those stupid things since they’re pretty worthless without commentary. Hell, I have a guy that follows me around apparently just to hit me with “Miss the Point” ( 99% of the time their point was destroyed, they just can’t accept facts lol ) or “bait”.

They’re just there for losers to stay losers most of the time though.

They are. For one I 3 stared all of them and also there are guides online to 3 starting all of them.
