I think the way the MC saga should end after we deal with Cortana (wich I do not think she is herself after she ejected her personalitys to help with defeatIng Didact).
So it should start out oh hey we just found a halo (not one from 5) then humans land on it, do stuff, fight Promethians. After that flood escape or already out and alert the rest of the flood where the humans location is.
After chif does some fighting, what ever is left of the covenant also finds this halo.
Now with 3 factions at war and the Mantal in the hands of humans, The forerunners have returned and are on a mission to stop humanity and destroy us.
Now after mission after mission fighting a war of 4 factions, the forerunners make the choice that halo must be activated and they will destroy all life just so humanity will be defeated.
And at the very last moments chif is rushing to the control center and a council of the forerunners are all standing there and they have like a Didact moment but this time have it all recording and showing it on all monitors across space for everyone too see the MC has failed saving everyone for the first time. Then… Halo fires. Queue sade emotional music and everyone dead.
Sounds like a reskin of the original trilogy in one game + forerunners and chief actually dying.
Reason why I think this should be the end is because, It will show chif still as the best of the best, but still show he can be stopped. And with the firing of Halo, really you can’t just end Halo oh hey MC just retired, or onI killing him. Just does not make for a good ending. And we still do not know if all forerunners are dead, in Halo Legends it just showed a bunch of then leaving the system.
I’ll just wait to see how the story goes hopefully it’s a good story line with cortana being how she is
