Huge jump here, considering the game isn’t out yet…but still an interesting question I think.
When Halo CE ended, I was satisfied. Blew up the ring, finished the main story, but still left it open ended for a sequel.
When Halo 2 ended, I was furious. “Sir, finishing this fight”…WHAT!!! IT’S OVER?? Knowing now that Bungie was rushed into finishing makes me wish I could have played the final product. Obvious cliffhanger, obvious rushed production.
When Halo 3 ended, I was happy. My series had come full circle (no pun intended), but beating it on Legendary gave me a glimmer of hope for a continuation. I was content.
We have the advantage of knowing that Halo 5 and Halo 6 are coming. No matter what, we know that we’ll have more Halo to play over the next 6 or 7 years. With that in mind, how would you like Halo 4 to end? Do you want a dramatic cliffhanger? Do you want “shocking reveal” that leads up to Halo 5? Or do you want to triumph over an antagonist, and look forward to a continuation in the next chapter?
Thoughts?
I wouldn’t mind if it was a slight mix of Halo 1 and Halo 2, where you complete your objective, but the very end gives you a cliffhanger that opens up for much more things to do and accomplish in the next two installments of the trilogy. Plus, it opens up into the story that takes place in Spartan Ops. So, if anything, this is the ending I would like, and it most likely could be the ending for the final version of the game.
Nobody really knows the ending, so it should be something to look foreward to unlike Reach where everyone obviously knew how it was going to end because it was both a prequel and Bungie kept spoiling everything with their ViDocs.
I triumphic victory over the mighty evil. Which puts it on a semi-cliffhanger which can be continued through Spartan Ops

Pretty much the same thing I came up with. Feels good knowing people share thoughts and ideas with me actually.
Halos cliff hangers are like Back to the future, the chiefs alive.
I actually forgot about Spartan Ops; that will definitely add some cool possibilities, as the continuation of the story via multiplayer will be pretty unique.
Judging by the Halo in the multiplayer menu, I think whoever is this ancient enemy will teleport the Halo there to kill the UNSC people, while this menace gets away. The last mission could be to stop the rings activation and follow the guy. Maybe.
I love endings that are super shocking that it gives you a pain in the chest. (I got that feeling when Kat got shot even though it wasn’t an ending)
Anyway…I want the ending to be somewhat like this:
What if the Infinity leaves Chief behind because Cortana wants to stay.
The Chief leaves does some exploring and finally comes into contact with a FORERUNNER.
The forerunner tries to communicate with Chief and fails but then scans him with something and then the forerunner speaks to him letting him know that the defense AI’s (prometheans) have gone rampant and will soon try to release the flood research specimens on the other side Requium.
The forerunner teleports the chief and himself to a flood research facility.
The chief is on watch as the forerunner does some stuff with the computers there.
All of a sudden a large rumble is felt and heard, and some prometheans teleport in. They talk with a sort of computerized gravemind voice.
The forerunner grabs his weapon and walks next to chief and says “we have to get out of here they’ve already corrupted the system.”
The chief says “no, I think it’s something worse”
As soon as Master Chief says that the room caves in on itself and gravemind tentacles are seen everywhere.
The forerunner says “They’ve been at this for way longer than I’ve expected.”
There is a huge explosion and the forerunner and chief are shot up into the sky.
The forerunner protects then both with a shield orb (like a portable bubble shield)
The forerunner tells chief that they have to teleport somewhere to be safe and says that the flood will soon utilize the weapon that Requium is if they don’t find someway to stop them before it happens.
Master Chief says “Not again” They quickly transport and find themselves in space floating above another Halo. The screen fades to black and Cortana says “I am your sword, I am your shield”
This is the way the game ends
This is the way the game ends
This is the way the game ends
Not with a whimper but a bang.
> This is the way the game ends
> This is the way the game ends
> This is the way the game ends
> Not with a whimper but a bang.
Lovin that referance. It was a referance to a quote that Cortana’s “This is the way the world ends!” quote was based off of/inspired by.
> This is the way the game ends
> This is the way the game ends
> This is the way the game ends
> Not with a whimper but a bang.
Erm…what??
Thinks for a minute
Oh…
