Am I the only one who misses the days when the warthog was the -Yoink-? It was a powerful vehicle if you had a decent driver and gunner, which there were plenty of back in the day. Nowadays people won’t necessarily even take the 'Hogs at the beginning of a match, and it can be hard to find you a willing gunner. I’m not sure if it’s just about the people that you happen to play with, but I do think there’s more to it.
I may remember wrong, but I think the Warthog could take a lot more damage back in Halo 3, for example. Now it can be ripped to shreds in an instant by a couple of dedicated DMR users. There was a time when the strategies for taking out Warthogs included 1) well placed nades to make it flip around (sticky nades used to explode vehicles! not anymore, it seems, which is lame) 2) rocket launchers (and spartan lasers if they were available) 3) shooting the dudes who were onboard. Now all it takes to destroy these core vehicles is to spam some DMR shots their way, so they have become kind of useless.
Of course, things like the mantis make it even worse, ‘cause getting into the mantis’ range = getting blown to bits in a matter of seconds. That’s another thing I wanted to bring up, actually. The mantis. I think it’s slowing the matches on Ragnarok down a lot. In the beginning of a match each team tries to destroy the other’s mantis and banshee, and the team that comes out on top (keeps their mantis intact, basically) will dominate the match until the other team’s mantis respawns. This tends to lead to even more DMR camping, since people are now not only afraid of other DMR users, but the mantis as well. I think the mantis should be easier to destroy.
The banshee and ghost are pretty good in my opinion. The banshee is powerful but not too difficult to destroy, and the ghost is still great for splattering and moving quickly from A to B and also quite easily destroyed. The wraith and scorpion are fine too.
TL;DR: The warthogs should take more damage, and the mantis should take less damage. And put more warthogs in the game! The warthog is the original Halo vehicle and the times when the warthog was the king of the battlefield were the best.
As another dedicated Hawger, I am finding I particularly enjoy the current offensive capabilities of the hog. They can drop banshees and ghosts like no one’s business. The turret is as brutal as ever, and I think they did a good job nerfing the Gauss. The hog doesn’t get pushed by DMR fire int he air, and drives very smooth.
However, I agree with the fact that about 8 shots with DMR’s and you’re smoking and looking for cover is absurd. I don’t feel quite the punch from the other rifles, but then again, no one uses them on Raggy. DMR’s are anti-vehicle weaponry, and this is just absurd. The other thing that’s bugging me with the ol’ hog is when you flip over. It seems like there is a guardian angel, and whenever I flip, the Hog more often than not rights itself, regardless of any laws of physics. This is annoying, and sort of breaks the flow of things for me. I like being punished for sloppy driving, let me flip.

Yeah. Tbh I haven’t really spent much time operating the gun so far, I’ve mainly driven the 'Hog. Maybe that’s why I feel like it isn’t doing much damage - because my gunners haven’t been too good…
But yeah, the main point is that 'Hogs take way too much damage from DMRs, just like you said. I understand that banshees, for instance, have to be very susceptible to DMR fire, because otherwise they might never get taken down. But seriously, it was never too hard to destroy a warthog (or shoot the people in it), and the were never too powerful, so I don’t understand why they are suddenly so weak…
It makes me sad, 'cause I used love driving around big maps with a decent gunner and just going “Yeeeeehaaaaaa!” and “Wooooohoooooooo!” while making huge jumps and trying to run people over while a teammate did some damage with the machine gun. You can still try to do that, sure, but most of the time you’ve been blown to bits before you make it to the other end of the map… Unless you take it very slowly and your gunner is good enough to pick off the campers from afar.
I almost have wheelman master and I think that the warthog is as strong as ever in this game the only problem I see if people spawning with stickys its just not fair in btb for the vehicle drivers. When i drive on matches where nobody uses them though its like your unstoppable. Thats just my two sense though
So why just nerf one of them? The hogs get SHREDDED defensively from weapons that make no sense. And if we’re all buying into the idea that the only way to drop a mantis is to plasma pistol it, why can’t we use the same strategy on Hogs, rather than snipe them with the DMR in a map that is a BLAST to drive, but provides zero cover. Let the hogs roam.
I was sort of hoping they would set up the hawgs to be forward firing for the driver if there isnt anyone manning the turrent.
I run into the same problem a lot also where I can get a to a hawg but then can’t get anyone to ride gunner in it.

Friend me on XBL. Let’s get a Hawg clan going before clan support is up…dedicated gunners and drivers. Push for our respective class specializations.
