Their precious ranking system is invisible, their e-peens have been neutered, and they’re throwing temper tantrums up and down.
Pretty much confirms what I’ve assumed about hardcore competitive gamers when they don’t get exactly what they want.
But to the hardcores doing the -Yoinking!- and moaning right now? I’ve really got to thank you. Here I thought I’d have to wait until launch to get this kind of hilarious drama on Waypoint, but you have delivered early.
Although I agree, we can’t say that ALL of the competitive community is this way. I myself am NON-COMPETITIVE. But I do know of some competitives that are completely unchanged by this. They are disappointed, but they aren’t completely temperamental.

True, not all the competitive gamers are like this. And those that are remaining quiet and are still waiting to try the game to voice their opinion, they have my utmost respect, and I can’t wait to meet them in-game.
But in the meantime, all these haters and whiners are just worsening the name of competitive gaming.
I think this rank announcement has been sort of a “straw that broke the camel’s back” for some competitive players, so they are venting frustration on the forums. I agree that they should tone it down.
I disagree that competitive players aren’t willing to live with getting less than exactly what they want.
Not having a visible rank will have a significant effect on how people approach the game, so competitive players are treating this as a relatively big deal. I think the way they conduct themselves on the forums should be changed, but I think their concerns are legitimate.

I guess I’m just one of those gamers that’s good at winging it.
If 343 made the right choice here, awesome. If they shot themselves in the foot, they’ll fix it. As long as I can play me some Halo, I’m happy.

While I agree that people are complaining for now reason, this is not the way to address the issue. This thread serves as nothing less than flame bait.
well maybe we wouldnt be so frustrated if the rest of you “who dont care” didnt come to our threads and tell us it doesn’t matter. IF it doesn’t matter to you thats fine, go on with your life, but to the competitive community it is an absolute bust! Why come to our threads and talk down a ranking system that is optional, that would not affect you the slightest, i think its you that need to take a step back and look at what your saying.
The only people who are all riled up about bragging rights are the people who are against rank.
Most pro rankers just want a true sense of skill progression. None of us care about people who reach max rank, legitly or not. We want a competitive atmosphere with something of value to gain and to lose.
Now we have nothing at all. The game will be great…but it won’t have the longevity or addictiveness that Halo 2 and 3 had.
