You know, the one thing that I noticed wasn’t really touched on in the Update was the vehicles. I mean, what will they be like? I understand it’s too early for that, but I’m just curious. One of the main reasons why I loathed Reached was because of the vehicle-play. There was no balance. Halo 3 got it right with vehicle balance, IMO. But Reach… a DMR should not be able to flip and kill a Warthog. A Sniper should go back to being used as an anti-infantry weapon, not anti-tank, anti-Banshee, whatever. That’s why we had lock-on rockets back, and the Plasma Launcher (meh), and the Grenade Launcher, plasma Pistol, etc.
Now, the problem with that is that the Banshee seems to piss all over those because the lock-on Rocket is made pointless because it flips so damn much. making it worthless. The Tank felt a little to strong with its firepower, but weak in armor. The Warthog… self-explanatory.
The point is, I just love vehicles. It was one of the main things that I loved in Halo 2 and 3. I just hope 343i does vehicle balance properly, and not like in Reach where vehicle balance was all over the damn place. I want to put trust in my Warthog again.
tl;dr: I hope 343i takes vehicle balance into consideration in Halo 4.
They mentioned that they would have more vehicles and one might be better than the mech being built in War House. I remember someone asked if they could use the mech, and Frankie said no, but that there would be a vehicle that would be better.

Yes, that’s true. But I’m wondering how balanced things will be. To me, in Reach it was all over the place. I want anti-vehicle weapons to work (looking at you, Reach Rocket Launcher), and I don’t want vehicles to be so weak that they get killed by the utility weapon (BR, DMR, etc.)… I just want to get in my Warthog (or any vehicle, really) again and feel like I’m not just getting in a death trap.
Too true, OP. I loved using vehicles in Halo 3, but in Reach… it’s just like they’re too easily destroyed with all the DMR fire… but I’m really looking forward to maps specifically made for it like BTB maps that’s not forgeworld… all… the… time.

Amen. I felt that was also another weakness of Reach in the beginning: it’s lack of true variety. Sure Forge World was a good idea in theory… but a sea of gray does get old after a while.

wasn’t even the color, but for most of reach’s life, the btb was almost always in the valley. I miss sandtrap… I miss half the team quitting so I just hop on a mongoose and drive around in a circle around the whole area while the other team tries to kill me. I miss riding in a warthog that doesn’t bounce like the tires are filled with helium… In Halo 4… I can live with ‘perks’ (for lack of better word), live with AAs, live with the BR coming back, but please… please let 343 fix the vehicles.
I want Scorpion on Scorpion carnage again. Not just up close and personal but also like on Sandtrap where you can shoot each other from far away. Let’s get some good Banshee duals going again too. Oh and some Gauss Hogs. MMMM… BTB Heavy
> You are right about the Warthog, I wonder how the -Yoink!- a DMR or a sniper can destroy a tank in less than an entire magasine…

> But hey, maybe 343i will fix the weapons for ONLY PEOPLE KILLING (The 2 weapons that I mentionned are an exemple of unfairness…)
I don’t know what Bungie was thinking when they made the Sniper like that. Maybe if they had done the actual anti-vehicular weapons properly, we wouldn’t have to deal with this.
Vehicles both need to be more powerful and more vulnerable. What I mean by that is that vehicles should be much less vulnerable to main body fire by the utility weapon, since that requires very little accuracy and does not force difficult shots.
However, vehicles should made more vulnerable to accurate fire on certain weak spots. For example, the hatch on the tank protecting the driver should be able to be shot off (like in Halo 2) or you should be able to flip the warthog by shooting out the tires and perhaps expose a fuel tank underneath.
So, vehicles are then much more protected against standard gunfire, but have weak spots that skilled players can exploit with accurate shots.
