Seriously Out of the Millions who bought Halo 5 at launch More than Half of them left due to the lack of content and features
I recently chatted with an old friend of mine about how Halo 5 is having a new update…
He didn’t even know Forge was added!and he was a huge forge freak back then so that made him happy
Now he’s planning to go back to the game after hearing all about the new modes, gametypes, weapons and Maps.
There’s also another friend who is an Infection freak and he gave up on Halo until I showed him Josh Holmes tweet on the confirmation ofthe mode being pushed out in an upcoming update… Needless to say he was pretty excited and eagerly wants to play the game again.
Like seriously though 343 needs to advertise these updates more seriously I feel like only a minority knows about these updates
Agreed. I play almost every day, but I almost never know when an update is coming. On the main menu news banner that pops up they should have a link to upcoming update videos. They could even put them on the Halo Channel if they wanted. They might already do that, idk, I haven’t been on Halo Channel in awhile.
They have the community updates to announce details about upcoming DLC, there is a live stream every month for new udpates, they post on Twitter, Facebook and Reddit as well as having details in the Cannon Fodder articles. Not sure how much more exposure you can get lol

They also post advertisements for it on the Xbox One Store as well, so that gives them plenty of exposure on top of those.

All of those forms of communication are only getting to the more die-hard halo fans. I don’t even follow halo on Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit. I think there needs to more more on the front page of the Xbox home screen. Beyond that would be TV commercials, but that doesn’t seem profitable.
The real problem is that people have left because the game lacked so much content at launch, now it is going to be even harder to try and bring them back.

Lack of content isn’t the only reason, plenty of people hated it because they made Halo 5 too much like modern CoD. The fact that are trying to add basic features so late after launch isn’t helping matters, the online only and lack of split-screen is a huge put off. Things like ADS, flinch have also killed casual gaming too. Plus the fact that the competitive side is dead, is now all about farming points for worthless skins and armour that could have been unlocked by challenges instead of farming commendations.
They could have something on the Xbone home screen, but anything more than that would have to be something they can advertise and make money off of.
Now, going back, what is one major thing that REALLY turned people off of Halo 5? Something that really brought down sales? That’s right; splitscreen.
If they could EVER figure out a way to introduce splitscreen retroactively, then that’s it. Advert that, and you’ll see a lot more people buying Halo 5, along with others coming back to it and seeing all the other fancy new updates that are here. Bonus points for offline splitscreen, too.
But that’s the thing. I highly doubt they’ll ever pursue splitscreen, even if only for two players.
There is ton of advertisements on it all over the place, heck even on the xbox one you can chose to follow a game and its developer to get the latest info on updates and events. By the end of the day its all up to the player, if he/she really cares about a franchise that much well then it aint hard at all to get info on the current state on a game.
Having ‘Liked’ the Halo page on Facebook, I always see halowaypoint articles in my feed whenever an update is made. I can’t speak for any other halo fans, but just that simple like has always kept me updated on the community on top of coming here to read the forums.

But that is if you follow the game. If you don’t, then how would you know?
Advertising reaches out to everyone in a demographic, not just those that care. The ones that care will, of course, know about it already. But those who don’t know about the updates that have dropped H5 entirely? Some choice images and phrases scattered around the Home page could maybe inspire a few to put Halo back in their console again.
They should definitely only advertise it when they make a HUGE update, or else curious people will be disappointed again when they come in and see a new map and that’s it. Maybe in March, if they release Infection along with another big feature (like offline Forge, or piece-by-piece armor customization), they could promote that.

We need the funny short videos they did for launch and Shadow & Light. They were on YouTube so everyone could see them then. But yeah they don’t need much else, hell Halo trends on Twitter and Facebook when a new update is out so I don’t know how the hell people miss this stuff.

I mean, if your friends unfollowed Halo jusy because of one bad launch, I wouldn’t consider them that much of fans on the first place.
I really agree with you, OP. I don’t think everyone is ready for this drip-fed content approach. I love playing H5 but I don’t follow all the streams and blogs and tweets. I can’t imagine the updates do much to bring players back to the game.
What they need to do is show a montage of all the updates at E3 (Forge, Prefabs, dev maps, game modes, colors, new weapons, REQs) + a teaser of updates to come (UNSC aircraft, PVE Warzone and other big stuff). They should launch the June update right after the conference (and make it a real big one, perhaps include Forge World?) and write “available now!” as a surprise. Then say “Halo 5, only 39.99$” or something to top it off. Then splatter Halo 5 all over everyone’s dashboard ads.
