The United Nations Space Command, commonly known as the UNSC, was established in 2163. As the human race began to establish colonies on other planets the United Nations, predecessor to the Unified Earth Government, started to realize that they needed a way to ensure peace continued to endure even past Earth’s atmosphere. Before anything could be firmly established, a fascist group known as the Frieden attacked UN officials established on Io. In an attempt to regain control in the region the United Nations Navy was sent to suppress the rebellion. Though the UN Navy did succeed is crushing the rebellion it didn’t stop future attempts. In December of 2163 international governments on Earth provided the first contingent of UN Marines able to work in space and utilized them on a mission to crush communist infantry camps on Mars. A turning point in space warfare came about due to the sudden reliance of marine forces in space combat, but it also marked the emergence of humanity’s only defense, the United Nations Space Command.
