The *Unofficial* Halo: C.E. Remake Thread

Instead of numerous other threads to discuss about the rumored, semi-confirmed (I’m still somewhat skeptical) “Halo: Combat Evolved” remake, post here on all the matters concerning the remake.

See here for “source”.
> The problem with this, in my mind, is that the remake hasn’t necessarily been officially confirmed. Neither Microsoft, 343, nor Bungie (I’d assume that an employee would know for sure if it’s true or not) has come out and said that there will be a “Halo: C.E.” remake this November. Also, Joystiq did not explicitly state who or what their source was.

> From my point of view, anything concerning a “Halo: C.E.” remake is still rumor and speculation.

> Here’s what I’d like to see from a remake:
/> Keep the campaign exactly as it was, just update the graphics engine.
//> This means retaining the original audio, voice overs, music, etc… with the exception of maybe tuning it to be clearer and crisper. The campaign would be nearly identical to the original save for the graphics.
/> 4-player online/ offline/ LAN Campaign co-op
/> Covenant/ Flood Firefight with matchmaking support.
//> I personally feel that Firefight should be an important feature in any “Halo” game for now on. It’s fun and has a lot of replay value. Firefight is to Halo as Zombie Mode is to CoD and Horde Mode is to Gears of War.
/> No multiplayer component.
//> My reasoning for not having muliplayer in the remake is simple: The remake is rumored to be released November of this year. Just last year, “Halo: Reach” released with full matchmaking support across the board. Bungie still has a dedicated team updating Reach’s playlists and adding new gametypes, community maps, etc… “Halo 4” is sure to come out next year, or maybe the year after. It will surely also have multiplayer. Having three consecutive games in a franchise released in less that 3 years between them with multiplayer is just overkill. Take CoD, for example. Activision has been shelling out an installment year after year. The multiplayer component has barely changed for 4 installments. Four years of the same multiplayer, different campaign. Hardly worth the $60 price tag.
///> Since there wouldn’t be a multiplayer component, the remake could ship with a map pack for “Halo: Reach” with C.E. map remakes.

I think the aforementioned would make for a fantastic remake without butchering the original game. I think that without the multiplayer component, the remake could be valued for $40-50 retail. It could maybe even have a special edition with tons of nostalgic knick-knacks.

Anyways, that’s what I think.

> Discuss.

I concur with you. If they do make a remake it would be nice to not implement multiplayer because of Reach’s not-that long ago release. Multiplayer might be acceptable for LAN. If the Halo CE remake is made anytime during late 2012 than online MP would be acceptable.

Well, the site said that it’s supposed to be coming out November 2011 in time for the original’s 10th anniversary. I’m just saying that we just had an installment last year with multiplayer, an installment this year followed by another the year after or two years after with matchmaking multiplayer is just overkill. Plus, since Halo: C.E.'s gameplay is so stripped down compared to Reach or 3, I think that it’s multiplayer wouldn’t even be played that much.

my theory is that they will have a reach multiplayer disc like in ODST.

that makes the most sense.

P.S this re-make was confirmed on gamespot.com

Totally agree on the multiplayer. All it needs is a solid form of Co-op and maybe Firefight. Also not working on Muliplayer gives more time for polish and debugging.

I think this should be cool. It will let 343 ease themselves in before tackling their first major project.

I think Xbox Live needs to be added like online servers were in the PC version. But all are servers, no ranked matches. It won’t amount to KDR or anything else.

Not really, Gamespot only posted and article about the Joystiq article. There’s still no definitive source on where Joystiq got their information. There wasn’t even any allusion or hint as to who the “sources” where.

I will say that if it doesn’t have multiplayer, I will be extremely ticked off. I have always wanted to play Halo CE over xbox live without all the problems Halo PC has. Seriously, like an arcade game would affect the population of a new game on the market. I’m pretty sure that most other people want it to have multiplayer too.

IF this is really true then I hope they add jacking, running, the ability to jack wraiths, and make the warthog destructible. I hope it looks like Reach graphics-wise

They should implement the ability to jack. I remember playing the PC version, and banshees were hard to kill. Also rocket launchers need lock on.

I would like to announce the arbiter is on planet REACH play Halo 2 sometime.

As excited as I am, to me, it’s still a rumor, since Frankie said there was no release for 2011.

He was probably speaking on behalf of a 343i “Halo” release. This remake is rumored to being made by a different developer.

I really dont want a remake. I dont need to rebuy the same game that i already have with a few added perks that could potentially ruin the game. Just make a new game with a new story ect. I dont know why we need to go redo something that is fine. I mean you can remake every halo game then remake it again and agian cause tec always gets better. And is not like we cant play halo ce now on our xbox’s. That is just my persinal opinion. Tho if we had to have one i want the game play and story unchanged. Tho the only difference would be achievements and multiplayer which was gana be in ce.

This is the article, once you read it its a total piss-yourself moment

It doesn’t matter if we want it or not. If Microsoft decided to publish a remake, then a remake will be released.
As consumers, we only have the choice to purchase it or not.

A remake this year is more meant for as a 10th anniversary special edition.

There’s no doubt in my mind that updated graphics would be the only thing new in a “Halo: C.E.” remake. Any developer would be crazy to only do that and it would be a gross misallocation of labor and finances.

Good point with the “no multiplayer” part. Reach is already lacking in players on some playlists (like Firefight Matchmaking). Also, a collectors edition with goodies (die cast Warthog, replica control key thingy, light up Guilty Spark, etc) would be really freakin cool. It would also be awesome if they put in extra dialog talking about Noble Team, Dr Halsey, or something connecting back to Reach. Mmm, They could also do with the remake what they did with Halo 3 regarding the co-op (one as the Chief, the rest elites), but make players 2 - 4 Marines.

The problem with having Marines as co-op models is that Marines don’t have shields or the same physics that Spartans have.

I’m not trying to sound rude, but there are already like 5 of these threads that show up right when you click on the link to go to general discusstion.
