I’m taking some of my time to write this thread in a hope that we can get the skulls in Halo 4 and future Halo games perfect, i hope you enjoy the read.
This thread will cover everything from types of skull, locations, effects, difficulties ect… and here we can hopefully create the Halo with the most replayability!
Types of Skull:
After the huge discussion that was posted in the CEA forums about the new mythic difficulty, with much debate on whether helpful skulls should be included or not, i have decided that we should learn a little bit from Gears of War 3 here.
The will be 5 different types of skull, identified by colour and/or name.
Fun Skulls:
Skulls such as IWHBYD and Grunt Birthday Skull would go here, along with every other “gimick skull”
Easy skulls:
These would be the skulls that helped the player only, such as Bandana, Pinata ect…
Enemy skulls:
These skulls would be the ones that cover enemy’s health and stats ect… such as the Mythic skull, Tilt ect…
Armour skulls:
Skulls that have exclusive effect on the player, includes skulls such as Fog, Recession, Malfunction ect…
Gameplay skulls:
These would be the ones that changed the way the mission played, such as Iron, Tough Luck, Black eye ect…
Locations:
I think one of the best parts about the skulls were that you had to find them. It really did kill the exploring in ODST and Reach with all the soft kill barriers, as we knew nothing better than a hidden weapon would be there.
In Halo 4 we should have to find the skulls. I’m talking campaign missions, multiplayer maps, firefight maps ect…
There should be AT LEAST one skull per type of map. so yes thats right, we could be talking up to 25 skulls or more, but look! that’s 5 skulls per type! perfect!
They need to be well hidden, not just off the beaten path of the mission, but maybe a sort of treasure hunt where you have to do steps A, B, C and D to get it to spawn. After all, they shouldn’t be easy to find, and all of CEA’s were found even before release! Skulls would not be findable in MP maps, but would be in customs and forge. What i’m getting at is that there should be lots of skulls, in places where you really have to look for.
Difficulties:
Halo 2 and 3 had it right, the better the skull, the harder the difficulty you would have to play on to find it! It gives much more replayability to the campaign.
DLC:
With one skull per map, it would be safe to say that there would be new skulls with the new MP maps in future DLC. What they would do is entirely based one what we got in the first place, but i feel it is nessecary to create new ones for the future.
