Sorry for quotting a movie title, but I have this idea on my mind. While exploring forge world - since reach is getting boring. Today I did 2 dailies, then loaded up halo 2 because the campaign is just way more fun than reachs’. And each level can’t be finished in 10 minutes too. But back on track.
Forge World. Grey, Blue, devoid of life. While using it more and more I am getting the hang of putting structures together. Now I found something that boggles my mind. While dying underwater, something which REALLY pisses me off, I found if you are just underwater but not deep enough to die, if you fire a weapon the sound is muffled. The same goes for grenades. What I don’t understand is why Bungie/343 would record sounds for shooting underwater but not use them. Maps on forge world are so boring looking from the drab colours that adding an FX for the lighting is a no brainer. I don’t understand why I cannot go underwater - why is that my armor costs as much as a fleet, I’m a cyborg super soldier, yet going for a swim is fatal? Others are also curious as to why we can only jump a few feet off the ground, and can die if we jump from 10 feet up.
In my custom games I’m making I am changing the damage system to what it should be: higher jumping, faster movement, no AA’s, less melee damage. Those ANNI maps are good, but you can never get as good a game on Prisoner without it being BTB. FUll 16 people! Fast paced action, where people don’t get spawn camped because there are so many spawns locations. Maybe it’s just me, but I think things could be better. I’m going to try and recreate some smaller maps I love from CE in FW. Not sure how to get the teleporters working right now but give me time. Chiron T34 anyone? Shotgun slayer, there was a game type I remember from CE, where you could only be killed with plasma grenades. It was so much fun. All the maps currently are so big and spaced out that it just gets, well boring. Close quarters nade throwing, shotguns, AR’s that aren’t so good. Good times.
My original point - why can’t I go under water in REACH? Why is the damn water so lethal? You go to the trouble of recording gunfire underwater but then you don’t even include it. Only a few locations exist in the campaign where you can find this out: Lnos, Exodus, The Package. On multiplayer I can’t think of a single map where you can go underwater without dying.
I also hate how in forge world some of the best terrain is out of bounds, like towards the tower in the background of the cliffs surrounded by all the trees. This forge is so limiting. All the maps are either built over water which you cannot see, or built around some dumb -Yoink- sniping island. So much potential yet it is ‘out of bounds’.
Places I think would freshen up the game would be more multiplayer maps, like from Exodus. We have boardwalk and beachhead for MM and FF respectively. But what about the area of exodus where you need the jetpack to get across. I think that would make a great sniper map. Or a capture the flag map within visegrad relay. Doors would have to be opened to increase the size of the map, but potential is still there. Untapped potential.
On forge world what also really gets to me is that I cannot build anything close to an out of bounds area. I want to build a map under that damn waterfall, so the water comes down in the middle, yet I can’t get anywhere near it. Imagine if there was an entire map underwater, changed so you could see farther and clearer, but still, the muffled sounds, the slower movement, and how you could get out of the water in some parts. Imagine sneaking up on someone underwater who is only submerged half way and assassinating them. I dream of a world I cannot make.
ISO::: Infection on forge world, on maps built for a horde. Get rid of the shotgun, and stick with the assault rifle and pistol only.
