Do you need help with a certain weapon? Are you new to Halo? Do you have some tips to offer?
THIS FORUM IS A GUIDE TO EVERY SINGLE WEAPON IN HALO 5!
I will not be going over req weapons. If you have tips for particular variants, add them yourself!
ASSAULT RIFLE: The AR is very effective at close range. Hold down the trigger and keep your reticle on your opponent. Bullets have a very slight headshot damage boost when shooting an unshielded opponent. The AR also has slightly more range than the SMG.
MAGNUM: 5 shot kill. Semi automatic. A little challenging to use at first, and it takes practice t0o learn. If your pistol shot is good, you will get good.
BATTLE RIFLE: 4 shot kill. It has more range than the magnum and because it shoots three bullets with each shot, you can be a little lazier with your shots as it is slightly easier to land a headshot.
SMG: A great CQB weapon. It sprays bullets like crazy. The spread is pretty ridiculous, so it is a bit of a challenge to hit long distance shots.
DMR: I personally find this gun very challenging to use. Aim using the central ring. The bullet will go somewhere within said ring. The ring grows temporarily after each shot. Wait a bit between shots for best accuracy.
BEAM RIFLE: This is essentially a sniper rifle with one giant clip. Shoot for the head for best results. Don’t shoot too quickly though… The weapon will overheat and render itself temporarily useless.
BINARY RIFLE: The Binary Rifle has changed SO MUCH from Halo 4. It no shoots a beam. I believe that you must hit half of the shots in the beam (15) to get a kill. Hold the beam on the enemy while firing.
BOLTSHOT: This gun is interesting. It I a great stepping stone to semi auto weapons, as it has tracking bullets. The boltshot also loses some functionality indoors as the bullets travel upwards slightly.
BRUTE PLASMA RIFLE: Treat this almost as a full-auto plasma pistol. Use it to wipe out your enemy’s shield and finish them off with a headshot from a precision weapon.
CARBINE: The carbine has a very quick time to kill, but it also takes 7 shots to get one. Not much can beat a good carbine, but they are challenging to use.
ENERGY SWORD: OBVIOUSLY a CQB weapon. You have to get in close with your opponents. Use it defensively in your base or (dangerous) get into the nemy base with it. Using smart-scope greatly increases your range but also your swing time. When rushing with a sword, use cover to your advantage. The sword slightly raises your speed.
FUEL ROD CANNON: This gun has the ability to do vast amounts of damage, but it must be used correctly. This gun is best against slow moving and stationary targets (e.g. enemy cores and scorpion tanks). It has the ability to kill a Spartan in one shot, but it is a challenge to time your shot correctly to hit them dead on.
GRAVITY HAMMER: Same as the energy sword basically. Well suited to defensive roles. The higher level ones have the ability to single handedly lock down a base from encroaching enemies.
HALO 2 BEAM RIFLE: A beam rifle… with a different scope.
HYDRA LAUNCHER: This is where I reveal all of my secrets. Even now about a year after launch, I still see people fail to use or recognize the hydra’s devastating potential. Scope in and fire twice. This is all you need. target enemies in the open. Unaware enemies make easy targets. Fire off 3 or 4 shots for ones that notice you. This makes it harder to dodge.
INCINERATION CANNON: The single shot will kill a Spartan in one shot, but is affected by gravity and must hit dead on. The charged shot is devastating and can take out large groups of enemies with its enormous AOE.
LIGHTRIFLE: 3 shot kill. Most effective when scoped in.
NEEDLER: Hit 6 needles into the enemy in quick succession to trigger a supercombine (large pink explosion). The bullets have strong homing behavior but travel relatively slowly and can be dodged with good use of the thruster pack.
PLASMA CASTER: two of the normal shots will kill. The charged shot can be stuck to walls/floors near large groups of enemies for maximum carnage.
PLASMA PISTOL: Charge up a shot and shoot an enemy to take down their shield. Finish them off with a precision weapon. The single shot doesn’t really do to much. It is decent at eating up shields.
RAILGUN: Charge up the gun by holding the trigger and then let loose a massive bullet that will kill Spartans on contact. Switch weapons to cancel a charged shot.
ROCKET LAUNCHER: Aim at the ground near an enemy for the best chance of hitting them. Use the scope to lock on to aerial vehicles. Most rocket Launchers have limited ammo. Use it wisely.
SPNKR ROCKET LAUNCHER: Same as the standard rocket launcher.
SAW: This is basically a really powerful assault rifle. Use it the same way you would use an AR. You do however have th ability to be a bit more aggressive and you have slightly better long range ability with the SAW.
SCATTERSHOT: While the scattershot has a longer effective range than the shotgun, it has a very similar range if you are looking for one-shot kills. The closer you are, the more damaging the shot will be. The bullets can also be bounced off of walls.
SHOTGUN: The ultimate CQB weapon. Get close to your enemy and then fire. It will kill a fully shielded Spartan in one shot at close range.
SNIPER RIFLE: Best suited to long range engagements and relatively challenging to use. Shoot for the head. I can’t offer much advice here as I am not very proficient with this weapon.
SPARTAN LASER: This weapon is ideally used against slow or stationary heavily armored targets, as it must be charged up and does devastating damage. It can be used against Spartans, but it is hard to hit them because they move so quickly.
STORM RIFLE: This gun trumps the AR in almost every way except for range. It rips through players at close range. Being a level 1 req, it has great bang-for-buck, but is also underused.
SUPPRESSOR: Similar damage to the AR and homing bullets. This fire rate accelerates the longer you hold down the trigger. This means that it starts off pretty week but then gets a lot more powerful
