The Ultimate Reward Is For An Armor Core I Can't Use

Where do you even get your figures?

You don’t even have to do math to know at least over 90% of the income that 343 and Microsoft are getting is from the microtransactions and not the Battlepass. Considering how each week’s selection of bundles equals more than the cost of the Battlepass, and each week brings new bundles into rotations (save for the final months of Season 1 where only the dailys were fresh content most of the time), and it becomes apparent that the BP is DEFINITLY around 5% of the seasonal income so far.

If the Mark V Bravo and Rakshasa armor cores were new defaults added at the beginning of the season without paywall lock, more players would play events to get cosmetics for said Armor Cores.
And those that didn’t get the battlepass MIGHT still be tempted to get at least a bundle or two from the shop.

No, you absolutely do need the math and figures, Rambo. You cannot utterly buttpull figures and provide inaccurate misinformation. It may serve a narrative but it’s dishonest and frankly irresponsible.

This fandom has enough untruths and lies swimming around in it, by the Gods please do not add more

I’m sorry I didn’t have time to do the calculations today, been busy with my paid job today; what with morons and fireworks.

You do know that I am usually factual.

But the point I am making is that given how the BP is priced at $10 - $28 at initial purchase and you can spend another $20 to level up, that prices the Armor Core that takes up a single tier at 10-cents (or 28-cents if you purchased the Premium Pass Bundle)

Losing 10-to-28 cents isn’t so bad if it helps your population statistics look better during events that provide free content.

Rambo, do you know about Asbestos? Do you know about why it became a thing?

My Great Aunt was an Asbestos Litigation Paralegal for Simmons Cooper LLC back in the day. Do you know what the difference was in the 50s between Asbestos - which caused Mesothelioma, and a safer alternative that did not cause a terminal, uncurable, agonizing illness?

Five Cents.

Five cents.

They knew, by the way. They knew how lethal Asbestos was. In the leaked letters, outed by a whistleblower - a whistleblower that had previously been a part of the scheme, he got Mesothelioma. So he wanted to get back at his colleagues.

The leaked letters said, “They’ll be dead by the time they figure it out and there isn’t anything they can do about it.”, more or less.

Then, everything came out. Everything came loose. Mesothelioma patient serving lawfirms came out of the woodwork. Their goal was to beat the snot out of these guys… and they did. Asbestos was made illegal and most of the guys who caused the trouble were put behind bars. The decades after that were spent suing the ever living crap out of the companies that went along with it.

…Rambo, that is Five. Cents. Of difference. PER. TON. Today, that’s about a quarter, maybe nearly two quarters.

That five cents, that NICKEL, was worth more to investors, shareholders, financial advisors, than hundreds of thousands of human lives.

What in the name of the Gods makes you think they’ll accept a nearly thirty cent difference for loss in media finance?

The difference is that Asbestos is something that is lethal with a median latency of 44.6 years fo symptoms popping up.

Asbestos is something physical that a company decided to use as an alternative, many companies in fact, because it was a cheaper product to use.

Meanwhile, the subject of Halo is a more digital matter.
I cannot acquire MJOLNIR in real life.
But digitally, there is nothing stopping the company from just giving us ONE thing for free every three months.
Videogames do it all the time.
Take a look at all the work that is being done for the Yoroi and Eaglestrike Armor Cores.
Those are free, as well as some of the contents for said cores in the Event Pass and the Ultimate Challenges.

Out of the Seven Armor Cores Currently in the game (Sadly Laurette’s and John’s are not available in multiplayer at the moment), only TWO of them are ones we had to pay for. The Mark VII, Yoroi, and Eaglestrike cores are free. The rest of the contents for them is a bit of a mix of free or paid in the rotating shop / premium battle pass.

All I am saying is that having the Armor Cores at default be given out to all players at the start of all seasons would be a great way to customize your Spartan by just simply changing suits. All the other helmets, attachments, and paintjobs are then just fluff that you can either grind Event Passes for or possibly indulge in the shop or even the Main Battle Pass if the player so desired.

Heck, even Fortnite gave everyone a few alternate default skins to choose from before unlocking other cosmetic options.

As for your Great Aunt and that whole Aspestos deal, I hope she is doing okay.

I never understood why they weren’t in the first place except for cash grab reasons. It’s literally a color. It’s a solid or repeating pattern applied over the entire visor. It cannot be that hard to put it on every core.

Genuinely want to meet whoever designed the UI for this and pick their brain about it because I’ve never met a more frustrating user experience.

With the greatest due respect, I am trying to use this example to demonstrate how little compromise financial advisors will allow. It doesn’t matter if you’re right that it would be a good PR move - because you ARE correct about that. What matters is how these guys do operate, not how they could or should. You cannot beat someone by wishing that they were different, but by understanding their motives, strengths and weaknesses.

She’s been dead for five years. I never got to say goodbye the way I wanted to.
But I sincerely appreciate your thoughts and considerations.

Sadly it seems that they lack someone on the team to make marketing models that actually improve based off of PR reception and feedback.

just gonna put this here for future reference

Live Team Responses

  • Feedback: Players want to be able to use customization content across different cores (cross-core customization)

Enabling customization across different armor cores has been the largest point of feedback when it comes to customization. We agree that there is room to have better customization by lifting core restrictions where possible. For right now, we’re pursuing options that will allow players to use certain customization items on different cores. Due to the way the core system was initially built, getting items to work on various cores will take time, may not even be possible for all items, and will likely require us to do it piece-by-piece. As we investigate what expanding to cross-core customization would require from a tech perspective, our initial focus is on enabling as many helmets, visors, and armor coatings across different cores as possible. In short, our goal is that we will be incrementally moving to a model that has coatings and visors working across all cores; with helmets and chest gear working across canon cores as our first focused changes to make in the system.

it sounds like you’re correct, but the key thing is " our goal is that we will be incrementally" so it’s gonna take some time obviously. And it feels like adding hands and knees to the across all cores list wouldn’t be to much to ask and should line up fine for most pieces.

That’s because they care so, so much more about the short term financial game. The system is designed to burn through the most products for the most profit.

However, given the fact that the game is in such decline, the changes I have mentioned would make its decline slower and thus; net more profits during the current period the game is going through.

Actually, only “one” core is paid. Mark V [B] (though technically, Mark VI too.), Rakshasa is free at level ~15 in the S2 battlepass.
It is worth mentioning, I agree that Mark V [B] should just be handed out. Especially for weeklies.

Here’s the thing though. They don’t care about the health of ONE product when it’s already made them their money. Retentive revenue streams are always less sustainable than consistent burst revenue streams.

Fortnite is just one game in Epic’s repertoire.

The reason I mention Fortnite is because 343’s business model is very much copied from Fortnites

  • Free-to-play PvP
  • Full-Price PvE story mode
  • Rotating weekly shop items that are expensive.

Honestly, if they copied something more akin to R6Siege’s store model, this would be less of an issue.

I mean they tend to fail at copying stuff that isn’t halo

Exactly. Anything on the MK. V core for me is essentially a $17 purchase. Or more accurately, a $7 purchase with a $10 entry fee.

Yeah I think they learned that lesson from S1. When you lock a core behind a paywall you have now decentivized people to buy additional options for that core. You’re basically saying pay me money so you can pay me more money.

They forgot the old saying “The first taste’s free.”

But allow me to finish this by saying F MICROTRANSACTIONS! This change has ruined the system of acquiring additional customization through accomplishment. Basically nothing has value other than monetary value. No one truly looks unique or specialized and customized. The free to play system has resulted in a strangle hold on player expression. Pay money or never look the way you would prefer to. It’s still freaking stupid that we can’t even choose what colors we want to be. All these dumb changes for the sake of microtransaction greed.

I said it in another threat, but I’ll say it here too.

What 343 has inadvertently done is force player to ask themselves a question that many of us may not have asked. “What is this armor worth to me?” And I think they’re finding out the hard way that many of us don’t value customization as much as they thought we did.

Personally my interest in customization has gone way down, since I’ve already accepted that some armor I will never get and none of it has special merit anymore. Now I see are and think, “Nah, I’m good.”

That’s not how you run a business.

In the battle pass, about every odd tier has a free item. To reiterate, you don’t need to spend money to get these items. The Rakshasa Armor Core is one of many free items in the pass.
