As many on the Forums have stated they wish that Halo 4 had been like Halo 1,2,and 3. I somewhat agree with that statement.Something happened the other day though that gave me a fresh understanding Of Why 343 made Halo 4 the way it is.
I was in a party with one of my friends and We where playing Halo 4.He said "I just got Halo 3 I am going to play it.My friend(Unlike me) Had never played Halo 3 online He Put the disk in and started playing.I stayed on Halo 4 because sadly my Halo 3 is broken. He immediately started talking about how the game was fun yet slow.My friend is not a casual ether. He does Gangbattles and loves MLG/AGL settings. After just a few games he came back to Halo 4.
I got to thinking as A game company or any kind of company you want to appeal to a new audience.Comming off of Halo Reach if Halo 4 had been Just like Halo 3 with better Graphics I feel most the new people would have hatted the game. The Halo 1,2,3 People may have loved it but It would have decimated the Reach crowed.
My point is as a game company you must appeal to your newer fanbase because they are your future.Halo 4 really Had no choice but to go with alot of Reach things or else risk rejecting a lot of there new Fanbase.Lets remember that Sadly Casual play is more popular Then Competitive these days.
Truth is to appeal to the fans of today your game must be more like the games of today not one from 5 years ago. This is simple Business.
You may not like 343’s Direction with Halo 4 but they really had no choice but to build of the most recent Halo (Reach)Or else risk rejecting there new fanbase.Lets remember it was Bungie not 343 that set us on this path.
Good post. i agree.
343i even stated that they wanted to appeal to a wider audience and make the game a little more accessible while still catering to fans.
Of course, many so-called fans interpreted this as “-Yoink- THE FANS, WE WANT TO MAKE COD LOL.”
Where is this “new fanbase”? By the looks of it, they’ve run a country mile away from this game… Just like the the “old fanbase”.
Halo 3 remains as the most successful Halo title. It kept the casuals and competitive relatively happy for years. That’s saying something.
I don’t mind them speeding up the game, but things like jetpack, OD, promethean vision, ect is what’s making the competivtie crowd angry.
It didn’t help that 343I completly denide the competitive crowd a ranking system and a ranked playlist. I can’t imagine it being that hard to add these things for the competitive community since they are usually the ones playing Halo years after release. And I’m not even a very competitive gamer.
Not to be a jerk or anything, but are you sure your friend didn’t just go into Halo 3, do really bad …so he left?

And it was based of of its most recent Halo game (Halo 2)If Reach had been like Halo 3 odds are Halo 4 would be more like it aswell.

Actually he lead his team.
Does you friend play CoD? If he thinks Halo 3 is slow then he must start crying at the idea of an RPG, Horror or RTS game.

He just said it was slow compared to Halo 4.Actually He hates COD.

Halo 3 was 5 years ago. Allot changes in 5 years.
A good economy has a strong middle class…

Except for Call of Duty, its remained fairly consistent for the past few years and is super popular because of it.
I disagree about conforming to COD “trends”. Halo was its own niche and did very well up until it conformed. The population speaks for itself. Halo should have kept its dignity and went out as one of the greatest arena shooters ever. Instead its going out as a sellout boy band.

Custom loadouts, PO, and sprint for everyone, weren’t parts of Reach. 343 didn’t need to make THIS Halo 4 to appeal to a Reach audience.
I agree that perhaps they couldn’t trash AA, but that doesn’t mean adding perks and killstreaks.

I guess 343 Thought is was the best way to evolve the Reach system.
Obviously that’s what they thought, but I think they are wrong.

Maybe but sadly It doesnt matter what we think.Whats done is done.
Everything in Halo 4 can work in a way that keeps what made it Halo 4 while staying true to its Halo roots by keeping the equal weapon spawning. Since Halo 4 didn’t accomplish it people are automatically throwing anything Good or bad directly into the trash it bin when in all honestly a lot of stuff is tactfully salvageable to create a new possibly better Halo experience. Sadly a large majority is too blinded with Rage to see what can become of Halo 4 maybe because there programed to have it a certain way or something because they immersed themselves so far into the game series that even things like Halo 4’s AA’s which is by far way better than reaches are all deemed bad from the 4 bad apples of the bunch. I want classic halo back as well but I believe that we can learn from the mistakes halo 4 made and make it a better game with the mechanics in place now you just have to do it differently.

It’s not going out. Saying Halo’s going out is like saying the suns going out during an eclipse. It may seem dark for a time but it will pass and the light will keep on shining evermore, this is just another obstacle we as a community must overcome by GUIDING 343 and banding together not just for the old not just for the new, but for HALO!!!
