First of all, I would like to address the fact that I am very hyped for the update today and for the next one. The except for a few (little) things, the Reach armor looks awesome, and even has the attachments. I was never too attached to any of the Reach armor sets themselves, but I appreciate them doing a (seemingly) good job on them.
Now, about the Torque remake, I have two major thoughts. The first is that I agree with most peoples’ first thought: “Why is it not a Reach map?” For that, I have several ideas. One is that we have generally been getting 2 maps with each update. That either leaves room for another Arena map, another Warzone map, or (my personal favorite option out of the bunch) Forge World. All of these could be Reach maps. I never had any particular affinity for any Reach maps except for Spire (which would be an interesting first developer BTB map), The Cage (but that’s because of how well it worked with the sandbox) and maybe Countdown (again because of how well it worked in the sandbox for Reach). However, I know that some people love the reach maps, and I wouldn’t ever be upset to get one.
My usual thought on this is: “I already have enough memories on that map, lets do something new.” But I get that I may be in the minority there.
My second thought about the Torque remake is: Why are we already judging it? Again? Remix maps, while aesthetically the same as the previous, play radically different. Eden plays significantly different from Empire. Overgrowth plays significantly different than Plaza. Regret plays somewhat differently from Truth. And Riptide plays very differently from Fathom. All of these were, in my opinion, great maps that were remixed into something that plays totally different, and the experiment didnt work out. However, that does not mean that it will always turn out poorly. A remix of what is, in my opinion, a bad map, could play very well. We have no idea about the size, layout, or flow of the map. Or the weapons and powerups.
TL;DR: Don’t judge the one map they showed us, which has probably been in development for several months (aka pre-complaining about remixes) based on a 30-second teaser that was primarily to show off Infection and the Reach armors. They have to surprise us with something next update, considering they showed off a lot in the teaser.
I definitely think we are getting 3 maps for the Reach update, or more, two maps and forge world.
These two maps need testing, tweaks etc. But if they release forge world as well…a forge canvas, then it leaves room for the community to fill in again. They may also put forge world forge maps into the map rotation, such as Cage remakes or Paradiso (I think it was called). Torque remix, Skirmish at Darkstar Assault, Forge World Canvas are what I think we are getting, and getting forge world will make people happy enough I think.
And I prefer the remixes we have so far, I prefer Riptide to Fathom, The Covenant remix (i forget the name) to the original one.
Honestly with the recent remixes (Riptide and Overgrowth) if i didn’t know they were remixes i’d probably think they were original maps.
Although Overgrowth (is it overgrowth or overgrown ?) is one of my least favourite maps saying it plays like Plaza is total bull. Plaza’s quite open with good sight lines across map while Overgrowth is a claustrophobic CQC map.

First, learn how to quote. Second, yeah, its not a good map. But the remixes all play significantly different than their originals. And third, what the hell brought up Grifball. Who cares if it only had one map at launch? Its always been up to the community to make new grifball maps. It has always shipped with one map.
