The Timeless One - Not the Last Precursor?

Indeed. As much as i want to talk about “The child” i know the discussion would be pointless because we don’t have the context.

Was he referencing himself as the child? In that case it seems obvious he would be a child to the Precursors, and saying he is extremely old, but in the grand scheme of it all he will be young forever. Remember it took billion years to kill him from the Didact. (Sry if you already ruled out him being the child, I havent read all of it and have to go to work)

No, as with all of his names they come from the other characters. But vinerva didn’t start calling him that until the end of the book and it was her geas (whatever tense) that was giving her all the information.

As for the death part we really don’t know if it actually took a billion years to kill it, that was just to ensure that it would die.

Don’t we already know there are more? When the Didact killed the Timeless One he released at least two premordium’s its at the end of Premordium.

what?

I’ve only read a couple of pages but this reminds me of the phrase from the cortana letters. “In my palace deep Lyca lies asleep”

They destroyed many species they created before Forerunners

Really late to this party, but I hope to bring some new ideas to the conversation. At least I hope they are new… first of all though, I just wanna say it’s been fun reading everyone’s ideas and I really like a lot of them. I’m always trying to look at the Halo universe and story line from different angles so I come up with some crazy ideas along the way…

Here is my first crazy idea I wanted to throw out there…

What if this Timeless One, The Eternal Child, The Last Precursor, The Primordial, etc. is not an actual being? In the traditional sense of sentient life, of course. We keep thinking that whatever this thing is, that it’s an actual physical being, sentient life-form, etc. that’s flesh and blood.

What if it’s something more similar to the old spirits that humans (such as Chakas, Gamelpar and Riser) have been carrying within them? Think of it like this… the old warrior spirits that Chakas and those guys carried, what if the Timeless One is the “original” old spirit (or the last old spirit of the “God” race that was the Precursors), and it’s simply been trying to preserve itself by passing itself down through the generations of life-forms?

Maybe the Precursors created and is now using the Flood to try and preserve itself (the last Precursor spirit) by consuming, or inhabiting all sentient life. Not only would the Flood provide a physical vessel for this spirit to reside in (in this sense, I think of the Flood as a hive mind, or something similar to the Geth in ME in which one being is actually all) but it would also effectively control, or destroy all remaining sentient life that would threaten it’s extermination (the extermination of all life would in essence kill the spirit).

In other words, it would unify all of sentient life under its control via the Flood.

It’s just like how the old warrior spirits inhabit Chakas, Riser, Gamelpar, etc. and use their bodies as vessels, only this Timeless One uses the Flood as it’s body or vessel instead of a human. Both kinds of spirits (old warrior spirits and The Timeless One) are “killed” when their host dies, so the only way to truly defeat the Flood (and the Timeless One) would be to wipe out all sentient life-forms that are acceptable vessels for spirits… enter the Halo’s creation.

So maybe this Timeless One is indeed the last Precursor but in “spirit” form.

I know I haven’t explained how all of this fits within all the canon we know of… such as how does the Mantle comes into play, the Precursor vs. Forerunner war, the “Prisoner”, the Composer, etc. but it’s something to think about in a broad and general sense. I’ll jump back on here later to further explain my thoughts and ideas if anyone finds this idea to be worth discussion.

Well this was talked about in Grave detail years ago.

We were thinking that the flood might have been created as a biological Archive since it seem to mainly go after advanced sentient life and preserves them “forever”. It is obviously highly complex as it is able to infect anything with the needed guidelines and can even interact with advanced machinery.

The whole idea start with the precursors looking for the ultimate way to preserve life as everything gets lost to the cycles of time. They created the flood to be an Organic preserver of life, a library of sorts that could always be called upon. When beings or entire races were about to die the flood would absorb them so they and their knowledge would be preserved.
Some people stated the idea might have gone wrong at some point causing the flood to become uncontrollable and just infecting everything; but from the lines the Gravemind said towards the end of Halo 3 it seems like the flood is innocent and doing what it was created to do.

At the end of the book The Timeless One Says something on the lines of " Its your task to kill me this one so that another can be awakened". When talking to the Didact

Hey guys idk if you guys have seen this yet but I stumbled upon it acouple months ago. It talks about how the precursors could have made the flood and how the Timeless One sounds alot like it could look like a Flood Pure form.

Here is a Flood Pure form

This so-called Pure Form stands out from the rest of the known Flood forms for the sole reason that its architecture is so vastly different. While most Flood forms possess bulbous, cancerous looking growths (from the biomass formed around a living organism to the growths seen in a Flood hive), the Pure Form displays none of these traits. It is clearly formed of the same Flood biomass, however it is assembled in a much more appealing way, seeming less haphazard and more like an actual organism one could find alive today. The surface of the Pure Form appears not unlike that of a rhinoceros or elephant, a thick and pebbly hide that appears less like a fungal growth and more like true skin. It has very distinct limbs with no strange tentacles projecting from anywhere and disrupting the design of the creature. It possesses a head that is unique among all Flood, and a set of claws that is vastly different from the ones protruding from the limbs of combat forms. This would not be of consequence, if the Pure Form was not a creation of the Gravemind/Prisoner… intelligent design at its most literal. The Gravemind/Prisoner may have adapted a familiar design for this Flood form–that of its own.

The cell contained, in temporal suspension, a genuine monster: a large creature with an overall anatomy like a grossly misshapen human, though possessed of four upper limbs, two degenerate legs, and an almost indescribably ugly head – a head shaped remarkably like that of an ancient arthropod seeded long ago on a number of planets, presumably by the Precursors, and known to some as a eurypterid. A sea scorpion.
Oval, faceted, slanted eyes bumped up from the front of its low, flat “face.” And from the rear of the head, a long, segmented tail descended the spine, ending in a wicked barb two meters in length.
- Cryptum, 277
I thought I discerned what might have been cushions or braces for a number of long, multiply jointed arms, ending in shackles or gloves designed to grip hands bigger than my own body. Hands with three thick digits and a central clasping thumb… or claw.
Two pairs. Four arms, four hand-claws.

Some say that the pure form only came about after High Charity became a Flood hive and enough biomass was collected, but this is not the case.

The Halo 3 multiplayer map Cold Storage is set on Installation 05 (Delta Halo) a short while after the Flood first escaped and began to form the Gravemind seen in the second game. In the facility can clearly be seen a Flood tank form, preserved in a suspension fluid since the Forerunner-Flood War, indicating that this particular design for the pure forms dates back to that era at the latest.

These are some of the deepest and most ancient mysteries in the Halo universe thus far, but they are not the only ones. Hidden in the bowels of extra materials and bonus content, starting with Halo 2, fans found references to things never before spoken of. Whispers revealed then were but the first few drops of a slowly approaching storm, one which is just now visible over the horizon… and the faint patter of rain on the back of the neck–in the form of 343i’s material thus far–feels sweeter than ever.

These were not my ideas, i just wanted to share this with you guys because it blew my mind. All Credit goes to the guy who wrote it. Here is the link

I suggest you read more about the Primordial in Primordium. Pure forms show up right when a Gravemind is forming and they protect it until it is large enough.

That does not dispute the fact that the pure forms look alot like the description of the Timeless One in Cryptum. That was all I was trying to point out my good sir

> That does not dispute the fact that the pure forms look alot like the description of the Timeless One in Cryptum. That was all I was trying to point out my good sir

which is why i said “read primordium”.

I did read Primordium, I read it like 2 months ago… Whats your point?

His description is completely different and in more detail. If you are trying to say he is a pure form then he can’t be since he survived eons without biomass while the one in Cold storage was being held in a type of stasis.

I just read the part again and it says the same thing just more detailed. I never said the Timeless One was a pure form bro I said the pure form flood and the infection form look alot like the description of the Timeless One lol That is what i think tho and everyone has their own opinions =p
