Let me explain.
Against most good players your AA is basically a Defensive ability. You use Jetpack to escape up to higher levels your sprinting foe cannot. Prom Vision to find campers. Bubble Shield/Hard Light Shield after you’ve had your -Yoink- whipped. And most people even go hide in a corner with Camo when their shield is down.
I used to have Camo equip, but rarely ever used it because it only works vs noobs and well after like a 1,000 games of a 1.5-2.0 K/D you never see guests (only during offpeak population times when playlists are thin). I really didn’t know what else to use that would help me out. I’ve basically felt that Prom Vision was lame and “not Halo” much like the boltshot, so I’ve never used either one (though I have picked up a boltshot and killed people after the rest of my ammo has been depleted). Prior to what the following paragraph explains, I thought the Thruster Pack was useless because you only moved a few feet.
Since watching mlg pro ninja use the thruster pack I’ve become addicted to it. This thing is insanely useful. Since I started using it a month ago my K/D in those games has probably been around a 4.0/5.0 and that’s not exaggerating.
In MM I find that it’s brilliant for getting around corners in gun battles that you’ve lost, or throwing a thrust in the middle of a DMR fight to throw your foe’s aim off so you can reverse the odds. That’s a no brainer, right? But how about sidestepping boltshot users? I’ve gotten to the point where I literally hunt boltshot users because it’s so easier to dodge their shot, and reverse the odds. I am constantly jumping and thrusting away from grenade explosions and taking probably half the damage I took before. I have not raged about grenades at all since switching AA’s. And on maps like Haven you can go up a lift backward, and thrust your way to the upper level directly ABOVE the lift without going to the center/highest kill zone. Another beauty of a move is actually jumping OVER your opponent in CQC, thrusting, and then turning to beat them down from behind for an instant kill (you’ll probably need a sensitivity set at like 7 for this). And I’ve owned a few boltshot/sword/shotty campers at the top of the lifts on Adrift with good timing.
BTB users, check this. Let that fool in the ghost or warthog try to splatter you. Once your timing is down you can effectively STICK them and then sidestep their splatter attempt with the thruster pack.
IMO this thing almost seems like cheating. There appears to be a moment of invincibility or something that accompanies it’s use. But I could be mistaken. I really don’t know. I do know that i’ve probably escaped on average another 4-5 deaths per game since using it and making it a point to master it.
Of the 1,000 or so MM games I’ve played, I have probably seen two dozen thruster pack users. Otherwise it’s mostly noobs using Prom Vision and Camo, and dying a ton. But of the people I’ve seen using the TP it’s clear that they are head and shoulders above the competition and putting out a high, effective K/D. I’m not saying this is me–I’m saying that if you took the time to learn how to use this thing than it could be you.
Are there any thruster pack users on this site?
