The Thrust "Ramp" Phenomenon

There are lots of “ramps” scattered throughout some of H5’s maps… where you simply thrust into them, or the object (they’re pretty well hidden a lot of times), and you get shot into the air and can execute some really NICE jumps if timed correctly.

Basically, the point of this thread is to simply discuss… I really think they were purposefully implemented into the game, because if you look at Regret, the sneaky outside ledges of each base, there’s the little pointed slope on the ground level below where you can flawlessly thrust up onto the corresponding ledge. It’s super fun and feels like a total, intentionally designed feature when you pull it off. It works out so perfectly…

It would be super cool if someone from 343 popped in and provided some insight too, on some off-chance! Anyways, once again… discuss!

There are a few around garages and armouries. I’ve only ever managed it out of luck and most of them where thrusting backwards.

I think if they where ment to be there I think they would be slightly easier to do and would of maybe been implimented into the campaign.

What you say makes sense but it might be a design decision and when pyramid jumping or “thrusting-kneecapping” was discovered I think 343i thought it was a good idea to keep it. Too bad it wasn’t the same for the super-slide

Is it weird or embarrassing I have like a month in this game and have no idea what you’re talking about? Lol

Where does this info/terminology come from? Pyramid jumping/kneecapping?

Well… looking at service records… he has five more days in online multiplayer than you, so… maybe?

Pyramid jumping is a widely used term but that came from coliseum, the little things that have the flag stand on them and the same thing is in the red and blue fountains. Thrusting kneecap is what actually happens. Due to the collision in H5, if you thrust into an object just right your kneecaps will glitch into the wall and will be forced out (normally upwards).

It requires specific positioning and timing, sometimes you have to jump after you thrust to get more height

Interesting. Has it been confirmed somewhere that this is indeed a glitch? Because based on my observations it seems more like standard momentum conservation. You ram into a surface at high speed, the collision detection strips off all momentum perpendicular to the surface, and you’re left with only parallel momentum. Because the surface is at a steep enough angle, there is no friction, and so you get flung at very high speed in the direction parallel to the surface. Indeed, the trick doesn’t even require thrusting. Any sufficiently high speed is enough. Thrusting just happens to be about the only practically viable method of getting the necessary speed.

It’s not confirmed, in fact it’s just an educated guess with my prior knowledge of game development. I say it’s a collision glitch as it looks just like the pressure launch that you could do on fathom where you get a player, the post to the right on porch and you thrust in between and it does the same thing more or less so I’m not 100% but it’s my educated guess. would be nice to know what it actually is

Regardless of what causes it I will still use it in my matches all the time

There’s some really nice ones on regret that are seriously viable and useful. You can jump from bottom mid to top mid/top carbine. On red side you can get high enough you don’t even need to clamber.

There are some really cool things that top level players are doing in terms of movement. Its like a new halo attribute now along with shoot, positioning, teamwork, etc. Watch Naded next time he streams (which isn’t often enough sadly), it seems like each time i watch him I find at least 1 more jump I’ve never seen before.

Edit: if anyone can explain the bumpjump from street to top mid on Fathom I’d love you forever.

Red side you thrust at the left-most leaf that looks like it’s painted on the wall, blue side it’s to the right of the rocks. If you need me to show you what I mean I can do that sometime for you

edit: I’ll look into that bum-jump for you, is it off an interactive cover or no?

I’ve got the regret jumps down, i know a couple of not super useful ones on coli and truth but never figured out that fathom one.

I know the early off porch and vat. I feel like you are thinking of the one off the interactive cover and you run from under the window… Video of jump I’m thinking of

Thats basically it, except the one the pros use in their breakouts are on the little bump on the top of that cover…

Yeah, now I know what you’re talking about. It’s an early bum-jump-stabilise, you jump and thrust slide on it and immediately jump and stabilise I believe. If I can get you into a lobby I can see what you are doing when you try it.
Personally I prefer the spring-thrust-stabilise up there but each to their own I guess

they are called pyramid jumps and I’m pretty sure are intentional. They are very handy for trick jumps especially on coliseum to get to snipe tower from red fountain.

i like the thrust ramps

I doubt it. As with most cool things, it’s the players that find them and it’s something that Bungie/343 didn’t intentionally design to happen.
