Please please 343 abandon the idea that Spartan-IIs had thruster packs all along. Both the Fall of Reach animated movie and the newer Tales from Slipspace comic anthology show Spartan-IIs in Mk.IV mjolnir having integrated thrusters. 343 seems to have a good grasp now on what the community wants/doesn’t want, how come they didn’t see that this is quite possibly the least popular retcon they could have made? Please 343, stop pushing this absurdity before it becomes known to the majority of Halo fans. If this ever becomes more well known you’ll have a real problem on your hands because I can’t think of a single reason anyone would possibly think this was a good idea.

I think he feels as if the the MJOLNIR thrusters as they appear in The Fall of Reach animation and Tales from Slipspace are retconning the already established lore regarding the advancement of MJOLNIR technology.
My answer is that the first is viewed as a flashback, intended as a general representation through the memory of Blue Team, hence the other out-of-place visuals such as MA5Ds and BR85s in 2525, etc.
The second is a comic. Some Halo comics are more visually canon than others, but it is a little annoying.

If the Halo lore can survive humanity first encountering the Elites during the Fall of Reach and Brutes during the raid on the Unyielding Hierophant being retconned, I think thrusters being present in older MJOLNIR models is survivable.

Maybe 343 just needs to go through and do a Star Wars, just to clean up the canon and make it a little less confusing. Maybe do anthology books that edit everything into shape.

I don’t think Halo is anywhere close to the convoluted nature of the old Star Wars EU (which I still loved but still). Is this a retcon? Sure. Does it damage the story in the way the OP describes it? No.

That’s fair. I’m just one of those people that likes everything to be nice and neat.

For the most part, it is. Even if you wiped the slate clean, you are going to get problems eventually.

Given that the ‘recton’ only has them being used in space, they don’t quite seem to be Gen-2 mjolnir type, at least in power output.
I actually wish they’d added thrusters to chief’s bomb return in h2a. It’d make far more sense than chief controlling time and space and throwing physics out the window.

But there would be more controversy. I hear that H2A’s bomb cut scene was criticized for having different camera angles.

In Tales from Slipspace they are used inside TR Spirit of Fire. With artificial gravity and everything.

There were also thrusters in The Package in Halo Legends but I’m not sure who had control over halo when it was made.

Weren’t thruster packs in the GEN 1 MJOLNIR from the very beginning? I seem to remember them being mentioned in the original Fall of Reach.

Arguably unnecessary, but evidently 343 found adequate reasons for their inclusion. Unwanted is a whole other argument. You might not want them, but I’m alright with their presence.

Legends was made at the beginning of 343’s ownership of Halo, I believe. And, yes, it is canon. The only part of Legends that isn’t is Odd One Out.
