The thought process of adding sprint. (Wtf?)

So here are the options 343 was presented with:

-The players who will buy this game simply because it’s Halo will buy this game whether or not we throw sprint in there. They are happy either way. They most likely won’t be disappointed with the lack of sprint, and they probably expect it by now because we’ve told them multiple times that we’d deliver a “Classic” Halo.

-The super competitive players who have been waiting for a competitive Halo for 5 years will be really, really, really, really angry with us if we include sprint.

-CONCLUSION: Let’s include Sprint.

I’d really like a 343 employee to explain to me why they chose to include sprint given the options above, or if they even care about the fans at all.

It’s just such an obvious middle finger to the competitive community, and I’m sick of being ignored by the Halo devs. 5 years of being ignored, and you couldn’t just remove sprint for us? That is NOT a lot to ask at all.

It’s because they’re idiots and feel like they need to copy CoD in order to be successful.

Here’s a tip for you idiots at 343, Halo was extremely successful without copyig CoD. That’s what made it unique. While like 95% of shooters copied CoDs style, Halo took its own route.

Again, who cares? Just play customs with all your pro friends and turn sprint off.

Competitive players need to adapt and evolve. If sprint had been around since halo 1 no one would have a problem with it. They arent going to re skin halo 3 get over it. If its going to be in the game, use it to your advantage as best you can. And if you and your fellow people who hate sprint all joined up in one thread dont you think there would be less hate and 343 might lissen to you.

You don’t create a game to cater to the competitive community. You create the game, the competitive community decides whether or not it suites their needs. Except, in the case of Halo, they just take what they can get and work with it because Halo has become the flagship of competitive shooters. 343 knows that they don’t need to pander to the competitive players because those players are going to buy their game no matter what just because it’s Halo.

Anyway, Sprint doesn’t even have a negative affect on the game if done right nor does it remove any competitive nature the game might have. But games are not competitive on their own, games are default casual and then they become competitive games when you play them competitively.

> Again, who cares? Just play customs with all your pro friends and turn sprint off.

That’s limited, custom games =/= matchmaking…

Not if 343i adds a custom games browser. Anyway, what’s the difference between playing customs with your pro friends and playing matchmaking and getting a silly little fake rank which does nothing but make you feel special?

You don’t represent all the competitive players, argument invalid.

I hate it when people state an aggressive opinion and then expect and think that everyone agrees with it.

Nope. It’s quite the opposite, in fact. Games should be built competitively and then they can be played both competitively and casually.

Do people take Monopoly, work with it, and then play it competitively? No. It’s impossible because it’s built around random factors, and no matter what you do with it, it’s not going to be competitive enough to have fun with it in a competitive manner.

Can people play Chess casually? Yes, because Chess can be played both competitively and casually.

Stop fooling yourself. You always have to make the game with the competitive community in mind. It makes much more sense.

> Again, who cares? Just play customs with all your pro friends and turn sprint off.

Why even bother having matchmaking at all? Just play customs with friends.

Some people don’t have friends (who play Halo), I guess.

How is sprint from COD? Did COD invent sprinting? NO, it didn’t.

In fact, I am pretty sure the Chief ran at 60kmph in the books, why not in game?

Also, Halo isn’t original. It was based on games before it and movies, such as aliens, although, Halo COMBAT EVOLVED changed a lot in the FPS genre.

What if those same players dislike sprint? Invalid argument.

John sprinted in Halo 2… He was sprinting on Regret’s temple while the Covenant were glassing it.

You know, I’ve never had a problem with sprint, but if given the choice before today, I would have had it omitted from Halo 4. This morning, however, I played Halo 3 for the first time in about a year, and all I could think was: I want to be able to sprint!

> Do people take Monopoly, work with it, and then play it competitively? No. It’s impossible because it’s built around random factors, and no matter what you do with it, it’s not going to be competitive enough to have fun with it in a competitive manner.

Monopoly actually can be played competitively. There are random factors, yet does that mean people can’t try to hold all of the spots on the board in an effort to make the most cash on their properties and take cash from the other players? Almost anything can be competitive dude.

I’ve been playing Halo religiously since 2002, and I thought Sprint was one of the least annoying additions in Reach. I honestly don’t see the big deal - especially if everybody has it in Halo 4 by default.

I said it before, ill say it again.

1.) If you think the idea for sprint didn’t come to Bungie directly from generic FPS’s, you’re insane.
2.) Because that wouldn’t be fun at all, and I play Halo to play a game. Not to feel like I’m in a book. That would also make the game so much less competitive. Also, MC is able to take a crap in the book, right? Why am I not allowed to pull down my spartan pants mid game and drop a deuce in the middle of the field?
3.) Halo was very original. With the standards you seem to hold ‘original’ to, they would have had to rewrite the laws of physics to be original to you. “It’s influenced by things that came before it.” Yeah, no kidding. So is everything else that happened after the beginning of time.

It wouldn’t require any amount of skill or effort to play. The game plays itself for you. It’s not competitive by any stretch of the imagination.
