The Things We Lost Along The Way

This is just a fun thread to list game features we have lost from previous games or will be missing from Halo 4. Nothing serious so no flaming or hate-spewing thanks  What do you miss that we have lost?

The biggest thing we lost…

Warthog launching

Here’s my top 10:

  1. Sword dodging

  2. Slide jumping

  3. Chopper

  4. Hornet

  5. Jump height

  6. Stealth

  7. Brute shot

  8. Burial mounds map

  9. Ninja jump backwards over enemy for assassination

  10. Ghost fuel tank one shot kill

Honourable mentions from from other replies:

  1. Dual wielding

  2. Slow down effect on CE plasma rifle

  3. Clans & competitive play

Controversial mentions

  1. BXR & Button combos

  2. Sword/rocket extreme lunge (like across the map lunge)

  3. Superbouncing

  4. Flag dropping & carrier waypoint

  5. Not such a bitchy, whiny, douchey etc. community of fans

We lost extra ammo lying on the map (rockets/sniper) which was awesome and added more in game objectives for a team to try and control. Which to me equals alot better gameplay.

WHOA WHOA WHOA
Who said ninjaing was gone? It can’t even be taken out. It’s just movement + jumping o.o

Plus, jump height is said to be high like Halo 3…
OT: Grenade Launcher. Prowler.

Everything from Halo 2 that was removed in subsequent games.

Where’s the Brute Shot? Chopper (Halo 3, but same idea)? Awesome Halo 2 Brutes? Functional vehicle hijacking? Dual-wielding? SMGs? Glitches? Vacations? :frowning:

Also…

Y U REMOVE TEH PLASMA RIFLE?! D:<

> We lost extra ammo lying on the map (rockets/sniper) which was awesome and added more in game objectives for a team to try and control. Which to me equals alot better gameplay.

I feel as though people undermine the positive impact of power weapon indicators on screen, with more ā€œrandomā€ drops. In my opinion, it seems like this will lead to better encounters, as teams will have to coordinate and fight off foes going for the same objective (a weapon to get the upper hand), think first rocket struggle on the pit every match, but for every power weapon spawn. Also, less camping on weapons spawns, both benefit gameplay.

On topic, we lost Mark V, my favorite :frowning: and I will also personally miss the needle rifle, even though I’m very excited to use the carbine once more.

Health.

Let’s see…

  1. The slow down effect of H1 plasma rifle
  2. Brute Chopper
  3. Grenade Launcher
  4. Sword/Rocket Launcher charge from H2
  5. Good maps… I kid I kid lol Reach has just made me sour about Halo maps
  6. BXR, backpack reloads, Melee grenade Melee, basically just advanced button combinations
  7. Being able to put the flag down when confronted with enemies
  8. Super bouncing
  9. H2’s online voice masking option
  10. Sweep sniping w. 10 sensitivity in H2
That’s just a quick run down of the first 10 that came into my mind.

I just meant in Reach it was very rare to land it, where in Halo 3 you could.

I expect with Halo 4 and the faster movement and higher jumps ninja’s will make a glorious return.

I shall miss the above ones too.

  1. The plasma rifle slow down was just awesome in CE, start it right and circle strafe for a flawless kill but mess it up and it’s your -Yoink-.

  2. The Flag dropping and waypoint concern me. I could live with the waypoint if I could drop the flag. I could live with no dropping without the waypoint. Forcing both together in CTF seems like a strange setting for me.

  3. I still find myself sweep sniping at times, old habits.

I dunno OP, the hornet might be in. Don’t jump to conclusions just yet.

Plasma slow down was so freaking awesome. Just added to the coolness of using a covenant weapon.

Not trying to start a CTF debate but I just don’t understand not being able to drop the flag… like I understand 343i wanting to make Halo ā€˜theirs’ but I feel like changing CTF that drastically is just not a smart choice. I feel like the new CTF will result in a whole lot of ties up until the final flag is captured by the team that just happens to luckily get to their base quicker. I’ll stay optimistic about H4 but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t worry me with all these changes to gameplay.

I feel you about sweep sniping. I catch myself doing it in Reach too often haha.

Doing a ninja with thruster pack… Omg I can’t wait to figure out how to effectively do that. Imagine running away and the person starts running after you. You stop and thruster pack back and land just behind them and assassinate them. I dream.

The Flamethrower
The Chopper

This is exactly why I’m excited for thruster pack most. Just seems like you’ll be able to do far more interesting things with it than any other ability.

I gotta agree, the ammo only packs made for some fun tactical gameplay.

Covenant Designs that didn’t throw consistency out the window.

My plasma rifle.

Dual-Wielding. :frowning:

Fire grenades and the flamethrower. Don’t know why but I always liked them even though I rarely got kills with them.

The missile pod from Halo 3 as well.

  1. Individual skill

  2. Deep physics that let you do stuff like grenade weapons, grenade jump, and throw a grenade across the map and hit them.

  3. Button combos adding depth to the melee system and adding a element of unpredictability to encounters.

  4. Camo and OS map power-ups creating an effective offensive and defensive dynamic depending on the situation.

  5. Maps valuing map control and holding various positions on the map(IE:Lockout, Guardian, damnation, Prisoner, alot of the H1 maps)

  6. Fluidity of gameplay caused by increased clutter in the Sandbox.

  7. A real predictable dynamic power item system showcased in H1.

  8. Competitve/casual balance in Halo MM. 95 percent of Reach is social compared to the roughly 40/60 split of past Halo games

  9. Clans

  10. Good montages as the result of everything stated above.

  1. !Flood!

  2. Dual-wielding!

  3. !Flood!

  4. Arby

  5. !Flood!

  6. Miranda Keys

  7. !Flood!

  8. Ramming -Yoink- with teh Chopper and Warthog

  9. !Flood!

  10. ZERO BLOOM!

> 3. Chopper

I’ll miss this baby…
