The Sword is Too Quiet

So this is something I consider small but detrimental to the weapon balance.

I feel that the Weapon Equip Sound for the Energy Sword is too quiet.
In previous Halo’s, an opponent switching to the Energy Sword served almost as a warning and if you really wanted to sneak up on the enemy you learned to equip it preemptively. This came with it’s own skill curve as if you equipped it too early in the wrong situation, you would be put at a disadvantage in a gunfight you weren’t ready for.

I feel that in Infinite, it’s far too easy to equip the sword just before running into an enemy and go unnoticed, leading to a lot of easy cleanups and kills that feel like there was no real way to be ready for. I feel like this is the result of it sounding nothing more like a soft swoosh when equipping the sword and that the sound being raised should be considered.

Interesting. Not something I had thought about but I like the idea. It can also increase the drama when you know they have the jump on you but you get just enough warning to try and make an escape.

…You know what, yeah, it’s not very clear when it comes out. You’re right.

They SHOULD change that.

Uhh I don’t really know. There are already two nerfs the sword has in Infinite than previous Halo games. One, you can’t attack until you fully unsheath the sword. Previous Halo games allowed you to attack just by switching to the weapon. Two, recently, is that you now trade deaths with enemies without your shield. Also something previous Halo games didn’t do.

I say not hearing your blade is something to be careful for, its in the same league as the grav hammer. After all, its not like the sound doesn’t exist. I still hear the blade being unsheath if I pay attention.

I agree. Just encourages patience and holding your nerve as a sword wielder

sword is the weakest in this game it’s been in a while. this is thanks to many ‘balance’ decisions. Grav hammer in similar situation. Sword isn’t too quiet. Sword isn’t loud enough. Sword doesn’t currently merit being heard.

Most of the time when I am killed by the sword the person is using active camo. They could make it louder, but they’ll still get me when they’re in predator mode.

So would you be in favor of a silent sword then?

i would be in favor of a sword that didn’t have bleedthrough on clash with non-melee weapons. Make that a spiked weapon only thing, since having mangler be one-shot one-melee kill was too powerful. Aim ‘assist’ mechanics make any long range precision weapon a very effective anti-sword without much effort. i’m not saying nerf the AA but make the sword worth having in a controller based environment.

I never thought about this before. but yeah playing older halo the sword sound was definitely more prominent. Im not sure if I would want this prioritized over everything else but it makes sense yeah
