The game is already out of top ten on steam. It is to be monitored but it seems like the damage is done. I expect to see people coming back thanks to campaign but most of the day today Destiny 2 was more played than Halo Infinite on steam. Why an older game beats Infinite at the same hour only 3 weeks after launch? At peak yesterday (97 000 players) Halo Infinite lost 150 000 players compared to launch. Of course all games have huge population drop after some time but today Halo Infinite wasn’t even in top 20 most of the day. It currently stands at rank 14 when I write this. so it seems population is still strong in the evening. It’s still a lot of players and it is enough but a lot of casuals players seem to have already left in face of the progression system and shop prices. It’s unlikely those players are coming back. Why would they when a game limit your progression, don’t reward your skill and time, make you rank up on luck, and sell skins at the price of a third of AAA?
How can one make such a good game and fail to read the room this hard? To people saying gameplay is good and cosmetic are not important. Maybe you are right. But it would be true only for hardcore fans of Halo (and I am not even sure it does not matter to hardcore fans because everyone loves dressing up a spartan) but more casual fans absolutely need this.
Let’s see if the numbers of players are still droping in the next weeks. For now population is still healthy but 343 has to react fact because it’s dropping everyday. I expect the game to make it back in the top 10 tonight. But how long will this stay that way?
Edit:
So about numbers. Friday seems the most played day of the week so I’ll choose this day every week to update the topic (for as long as I think to do it) and I’ll udate the first post each time.
Launch day: 256 619
Friday november 19th: 199 431
Friday november 26th : 151 731
Friday december 3rd: 112 872
Friday december 10: 124 588.
Friday december 17: 75 897.
Friday December 24th: 48 798.

I can’t disagree more from a gameplay standpoint. The server synch needs a fix but that’s it for now. The drop in population is related to what’s around the game core.

For me, it’s easier to go back to MCC to play Halo. Over there I don’t need to worry about any uncertain future. We’ve got mod tools too. We can make our own experience. With all that’s happening, it’s easier to just not think about it and play something else or get my college work done. It’s got me so stressed that I refunded the campaign so I could buy other games for my friends and I to play together. Why pay $20 for white when you can get so many other cool titles on sale for steam for less than that? There are other free games out there right now that are really fun that one could play instead.
Rock and stone!

the charts show a VERY up and down roller coaster… but it’s just going slowly down and down. and yeah, pc is like half the player base. but if i recall, even xbox players are complaining from it being hard to aim on controller

That’s normal.
Alot of F2P games, especially shooters, lose alot of players within a few weeks.
Not all shooters vibe with FPS players. Some like twitch shooters, we like arena shooters.
The fact that Halo’s gameplay is significantly different from what people are used to playing clones of is a hard pill to swallow for new audiences.
Price of customization and fomo may be one thing, but you are forgetting Campaign isn’t even out yet. There are people who straight up hate MP and only play Campaign for Halo games. I for one lean heavily on the Campaign and have MP on the side to get my Halo fix.

aiming is pretty easy tho tbh, it’s more challenging for some weapons but i think a lot of the complaints stem from they’re just not very good. the aim assist isn’t as strong which is good IMO, the BR is like a damn aimbot tho tbh ngl it absolutely beams

Kinda off topic, but steam charts…
Do they include both Xbox generations plus PC?
Because I don’t know much people that own a PC or steam, most of them are on console. I am 30, maybe that’s a reason why?

It’s steam only. But it’s still a good indicator usually. Steam is the most used platform on PC.

There’s a pretty sizable chunk of halo’s population that plays on PC these days

I don’t forget it I litteraly say it in my post^^ I actually am both campaign and MP users too. but for the future of Halo, MP numbers needs to stay relevant for years.

It’s worth keeping in mind that’s not all the PC playerbase. People accessing Infinite using Xbox GamePass on PC use the Xbox app, not Steam.
None the less, it’ll be interesting to watch as content/updates roll out.

Aim isn’t the issue, it’s the servers. I constantly swap between multiple prefects one game to minimum 5 or 6 burst the next. It’s very hard to gauge your play since each match feels on or off due to desync.

Kind of feel like it’s many factors like that the store but I also feel like it being poorly optimised on PC so had to stop playing the PC port. It’s like I have a high end machine and it runs poorly regardless of what settings are turned on/off.

This is what happens when players are smacked in the face with a paywall
