I just noticed this and a couple other things. In Lockes ad, the Chief statue stands undamaged. Perhaps locke is either jealous of chiefs perfect nature and the fact that he’s always regarded as the ultimate hero? Also the bullet hole in chiefs armor is precision But the burn Mark is not human, perhaps covenant or even forerunner.
In chiefs ad, the chief statue is broken near the helmet. In regards to his monologue, is chief talking about himself being broken? Perhaps chief has a new mission to destroy ONI? Lockes armor has multiple holes in it, possible spray burst from an AR and possibly chiefs AR.
Thoughts?
Also when you see the first person view I noticed with both agent locke and master chief their primary ammo has about 4 or 5 shots left. Maybe they have been fighting something else aswell? Or something else has happened relating to the destroyed city

I certainly hope that the city was not destroyed by the two duking it out…

They went Dragonball Z on the city.
Chief’s dialogue is most definitely pointed at Locke and not himself.

More like Superman and Zod from Man of Steel
Symbolism, symbolism. Locke would view the legend of the Master Chief (reprisented by the statue) as it was intended: pure and unblemished. John would instead view it through the filter of his pain over all that he has lost and sees all the dents and cracks that exist inside him. I personally believe that both Johns and Lockes monologues were meant as if they were addressing the mythical “Master Chief” when they look at the statue and not eachother, with Locke being admiring the “great hero of humanity” and resenting the imperfect man that John actually is and whatever he has done while John himself questions the “Master Chief” bitterly and angrily as he sees his personhood and all he has lost and suffered being reduced to a fairy tale to make people feel good.
Thats my take on it. Subject to change as i analyze it all again and again as the day progresses
