The sprint discussion thread

The reason why people say sprint works in CoD is because the low kill times, but I actually think it’s worse then halo’s.

I don’t own CoD but me and about 14 other friends go over to my cousin’s house every so often and we have this competition. We sprint around a set course in the map and try to rack up as many kills as we can, you know since people argue CoD has skill. In this group we have 5 Halo freaks (myself included), 3 COG warriors, a WOW nerd, 3 GTA players, and 4 CoD gardening tools (h.o.e.s) (all these nicknames we refer to each other because we were like 11 when me and my cousin came up with them). So we go in order of Halo, CoD, COG, WOW, GTA, CoD, Halo, Halo, COG, GTA, CoD, Halo, CoD, COG, GTA, and Halo.

We do this about 2 rotations, which takes about 10 games. The best player is my cousin then it’s me. In our last competition we averaged almost 14 kills per death as a whole, (considering that the GTA and WOW players aren’t used to this style of gameplay) but in each game it’s as follows 20 KD for Halo, 13 for COG, 4 for WOW, 6 for GTA, and 22 for CoD. As a total for each, Halo had 200 kills and 10 deaths, COG had 78 kills and 6 deaths, 8 kills for 2 deaths, 36 kills for 6 kills, and CoD had 176 kills for 8 deaths. In total 498 kills and 36 deaths. The highest KD was my cousin with a whooping 80 kills in 2 deaths. Last time we had one (which was yesterday in fact), I asked my friends why they thought we/they got so many kills, since in Halo gears and GTA we never get as high. Every joked that it was because they and we were all naturally good or the game was easy but the most jaw dropping thing was from the WOW player who said, “Because we use our strategies or tactics from our other games and use them in this game.” Which sort of everyone stop for a second and think about it, the COG players said they were playing like Gears because they tried to get behind cover several times or try to roll around, the GTA players said they just acted like they were playing with 2x speed and super jump, and the halo guys, (myself as well) all said we were acting like we were playing SWAT with a slight damage boost . The CoD players argued that playing it like other games wasn’t good but the top 3 next KD were from Halo players, 30 by me, 20 and 20. The CoD gardening tools argued that they only had 2 lives and needed to get a feel for the game first, which we countered that we didn’t play the game at all or at least as much as the CoD players and weren’t as familiar with the controls or mechanics. So we all agreed that next time we’d play both Gears of War, Halo 5 customs and GTA Death match to test out the fluency of each other and the CoD players argument that the other games were just as easy.

Of course this doesn’t prove anything but I think it’s at least would be a minor and good indicator of how different other players adapt to gaming and slightly prove which game is “easiest” and which game has the “best” mechanics.

Bungie also heavily altered the game post launch. The BR was a 6 (7?) Shot kill at launch.
A lot of the other alterations people didn’t get used to. It was more about coming to grips with compromises that had to be made in moving from a game made for LAN to a game made for a primate xbl system.

All sprint removal will do to Halo 5 is make open spaces frustrating. In its current state, sprint is balanced.

That’s interesting. Halo 4 to me was their version of Cod while Halo has more Halo feel like the thruster.

I don’t speak for everybody on my side of the argument, but I’m not even arguing for its removal in Halo 5. This game is already a lost cause. Removing sprint from Halo 5 won’t make a good game because of the aim assist and other un-editable game mechanics being designed around it. I’m trying to help steer the series back on course and get sprint left out of Halo 6 entirely.

and have increased base speed which is more op then sprint.

Agreed. Removing sprint from Halo 5 would probably help a bit, but the game is built around it and would still not make for an optimal non-sprint experience.

Because the game wouldn’t be designed around an increased BMS?
Old MLG playlists were unbalanced with increased BMS?
Could you elaborate how we’re suddenly having an increased BMS viewed as Overpowered???

Think about it, sure if we would have no sprint and every one will have base movement but the game would be so OP just having the ability to pretty much sprint speed and shoot and throw grenades at the same time which means that youre sprinting and shooting your gun.

How is that OP? Is there some downside to people doing that?

It means really that we would be sprinting but still able to shoot and throw grenades with out the animation of sprinting.

I meant refuse to play the franchise, not the game. I know there are a ton of people who will buy halo 6, but don’t play halo 5, and their opinions still matter. If someone is not going to play a franchise or buy any of the next games, then why should they try to change it if they aren’t going to play it anyway? Do you see where I’m going at? Also, sorry that I didn’t make myself more clear.

We’re not talking about increasing the base movement speed to match the sprint speed. Increasing the base movement speed to match that of the classic Halo games would be fine.

Oh I get it now. There probably were many who hated it then and love it now, and there were probably many who hated it then and still hate it now.

Halo reach had a sprint (sort of) and everyone treats that game like it’s their own baby. Why are people so negative towards being able to run? I thought a lot of Halo 5’s maps were well thought out for maintaining sprint. Just because you were hit with a spartan charge doesn’t mean you should go on to a rant about how Sprint ruins halo.

You’re going to have to explain how it’d be overpowered…

sprint must die before what ever is left of halo does

Removing sprint from Halo 5 won’t make a good game because of the aim assist and other un-editable game mechanics being designed around it. I’m trying to help steer the series back on course and get sprint left out of Halo 6 entirely.

I know what it means, but saying OP means there’s a negative side effect on the gameplay. Why is allowing people to move faster and always be able to shoot and made a bad thing? That’s how you fight in a shooter.

Lol not that hard if you have common sense being able to move fast and fight at the same time is op

The smaller the communtiy gets (as it’s now the smallest it’s ever been since before Halo 3) the more people within it that will like sprint because they’ll soon be the only ones left playing the game. Like I said, keeping a game changing mechanic that people don’t like will push them away. Players having been pushed away doesn’t exactly support your claim of pro-sprinters being the majority.

> 343 doesn’t make decision based on what the existing community wants. If they did, they wouldn’t have added sprint when the community was telling them not to for the last four years.

Um, yah they do. Not all decisions but definitely a lot. I think of the MoR update, containing infection and reach stuff which the community wanted. I think of BTB, which was supposed to be replaced by warzone until fans yelled at them to put it in the game. I think of firefight, which 343 specifically stated that if people wanted a PvE warzone enough, they’d put it in. I think of them removing ordnance and loadouts, which the community said made it feel too much like CoD. No they don’t make every single decision requested by the community, but community feedback is where a ton of their decisions come from.
