I was under the impression that measurements have been made to determine cross times etc with the result that the default times hadn’t changed much, at least on what’s considered “small” maps for the respective game.
So, what took ages before would still take ages now.

PS: I’ve seen two measurements, one Halo 3 vs Halo 4 and one Halo 2 vs Halo 5.

Peoples opinions change. Halo 5 has balanced sprint so more people like it now. Also they’ve gotten used to it. That’s why the date matters.

“Getting used to it” doesn’t make it a good thing. I can “get used to” a cold shower, but it still sucks.

Someone did do a comparison (linked to in this thread I think) using Midship from Halo 2, Heretic from Halo 3 and Truth from Halo 5 and found that traversal times in H2/3 are nearly identical with the traversal time in H5 while using sprint. So yes, people aren’t geting from A to B quicker in relation to previous games.

People also stop playing the game. For the last four years, the community was much larger and was largely against sprint. The smaller the communtiy gets (as it’s now the smallest it’s ever been since before Halo 3) the more people within it that will like sprint because they’ll soon be the only ones left playing the game. Like I said, keeping a game changing mechanic that people don’t like will push them away. Players having been pushed away doesn’t exactly support your claim of pro-sprinters being the majority.

Yep. There are things about the sprint debate that I consider debatable, but its impact on map size has both been confirmed empirically, and confirmed by the developer. This is one of the few, undebatable facts about the effects of sprint.

Halo 3 had 12 million sales
Halo 5 had 3 million sales
The stats can safely assume that 3/4 of the community left because of these gimmicks like sprint.

So if they stop playing the game/series and aren’t buying anymore, then they should have no impact on how it should turn out. As of right now, the halo community is mainly pro-sprinters. Before, it might’ve been different, but now most of us like sprint.

Bad analogy. People hated halo 2’s changes (do you remember halo2sucks.com?), but they got used to them and now call it the glory days.

Implying they wouldn’t buy it again if they had it their way.

Implying it’s the same people.

This website is a small ratio of the halo community. If there’s a 200:100 ratio of people who want sprint vs those who don’t, then it’s a safe assumption to say that 2000 people like sprint, while 1000 don’t. Yes it’s not a complete accurate representation, but it’s close.

Implying most won’t buy it because they don’t game anymore, have families, or won’t buy anything with 343 slapped on it. There are some however who will buy it if they had their way, however. I will give you that.

I don’t understand the second part that you quoted me on. Can you please explain?

That’s just silly and childish. People who have stopped playing the game are no less worthy to speak their mind than people who still play, and their opinions are equally valuable. You see, they, too, have the right to enjoy something they once enjoyed.

And as such, an assumption. No basis.

You’re assuming it’s the same majority of players who hated Halo 2’s changes and now call it glory days.

It will

The smaller the communtiy gets (as it’s now the smallest it’s ever been since before Halo 3) the more people within it that will like sprint because they’ll soon be the only ones left playing the game. Like I said, keeping a game changing mechanic that people don’t like will push them away. Players having been pushed away doesn’t exactly support your claim of pro-sprinters being the majority.

343 doesn’t make decision based on what the existing community wants. If they did, they wouldn’t have added sprint when the community was telling them not to for the last four years.

Are you saying all Halo players are a single entity?

Most of us pro-sprinters don’t care that the maps are stretched out or that we have to sprint to make certain jumps. In previous Halos all you had to do was crouch when jumping to make it onto certain ledges but now you actually have to think when making certain jumps because they require SKILL like the window to window jump on overgrowth which takes a few tries but when I do make that jump I catch people by surprise and usually get kills.

Could you elaborate?
