It only takes around a second or a tad more to reach full speed. You’ll know when you see those two brackets on your screen. You can easily test if you get stopped while you’re at full sprint while getting shot in a custom game or a game of matchmaking. My guess is you unknowingly stopped yourself by either pulling back on the stick or you tried to turn and it took you out of sprint.
I guess so. I don’t remember because it was well over a year ago. 4 seconds to reach full speed is a bit too long though in my opinion. I think that you should be able to reach full speed in at least 2.5 seconds. If that’s too much, then decrease how fast you go when sprinting at full speed. That way you can’t easily race around the map at high speed, but still have a chance to escape a gun fight, if needed.

I’m sure you can find the official number somewhere, but it only takes around 1.3 seconds to reach full sprint speed.
It seems to take longer than that for me. I don’t even know where to find that information. Either way, it is a bit too long. It should be just roughly a second.
1.3 is a rough estimate so it could be a sliver lower and you aren’t gonna notice a difference between 1 and 1.3 seconds. Use a stopwatch and you’ll see how fast a .3 difference really is.
For me sprint is ok. They should balance it somehow
How many high level players use sprint a bunch? I don’t use it that often tbh, especially not in Arena. So, in a game which has sprint I rarely use it so why have it? Then again why take it away? I’m sure others enjoy using it.
I’ve been playing Halo for a while including Halo:ce and Halo 2 and I think they should keep it because everyone is used to it and it would appeal better to a newer audience.

“…a bunch” is subjective, but I’ll say all of them use it a fair amount. The difference is the method in which they apply it. They’re not just hanging out in the sprint animation running around maps looking to Spartan Charge other players. They’ll often initiate the sprint mechanic simply to gain access to the Boost>Slide>Jump technique in order to rotate or reach a positional location as quickly as possible without being in the actual sprint animation longer than necessary. They’ll also pair that technique with additional techniques to reach locations not easily reached or to maintain/stretch out the distance the max movement delta can be carried without the restriction of the sprint animation.

I thought this was about sprint only? That is what I’m referring to. Who just sprints just to do it? I can understand if you want to get somewhere faster but, I think you’ll be doing it a lot less in high level play.

My point is that the sprint mechanic itself is required to (1) reach the max movement delta, and (2) to achieve some other mechanical techniques. These are things high level players make use of quite often. Therefore, all high level players use the sprint mechanic a fair amount, but unlike lower level players who may enact the sprint mechanic to literally run around “sprinting” they (high level players) use it in a much more optimal fashion. They do this in order to limit the risks associated to it. The primary risks being a lack of weapon readiness and potential shield delay.
Does no one see a correlation between the addition of sprinting/additional movement mechanics and decline in sales and interest? This isn’t a bungie vs 343 issue, look at the stats. Halo has been at a steep decline since these additions because it deviates from the halo formula that worked.

If you have evidence that shows armor/Spartan abilities specifically caused a decline in sales and interest then I would love to see that. Decline in sales and interest in general isn’t proof that the movement abilities were the only or main cause of that to happen though considering there are a multitude of things which could’ve contributed to it.

Because correlation =/= causation.
For all we know the decline was directly because people don’t like the robots being orange.

There is no proof that the “steep decline” you mention rests solely on the fault of sprint or additional movement mechanics. You are just painting a narrative and cherrypicking trends which corroborate it.
So yes, there is a correlation. But is there not also a correlation between declining sales/interest and lack of Brutes? Look at the stats! Halo 3? Brutes. Halo 4&5? No Brutes. Halo has been at a steep decline since the removal of Brutes because it deviates from the Brute formula that worked. This is a logically equivalent argument to yours. Do you see how absurd it is?
sprint need to stay standart in the halo game’s since if you remove sprint from the game a lot off players will play other shooter game’s since there not like the old school way since there are fan off the new school off the shooter game’s.
that old school players not like it is there choose but at some point there need to adept to new things also staying in the past will make the game only get a worse reputation in the shooters line.
if you think is good there are E sports teams in halo now thanks to the chance’s it has give us.
for small multiplayer maps has sprint no use its good for the large maps there is sprint good for.

Since when did Sprint become so important that it becomes the sole decider of whether someone buys/plays the game or not?
How many people look at a game (as in, not just a Halo game) and go “Does it have Sprint?” and then turn their nose if it doesn’t?
I hope sprint gets binned for Infinite. Can also do without clamber. Feel like it’s more important to always be weapon-ready (like Counter-Strike is still doing too).

if you follow some game site’s on facebook like IGN that is also one off the game site’s that are giving game’s a Rate that are releasing and if there rate a game like some others game site’s also do a good rate like 9 from the 10 stars and not give it a low rate then some new players also gone see it on some streamer platforms from how the game looks like and if its maybe something there like to play also.
its easy.
let me tell it this way.
the main halo game from halo 1 to halo 6 are all 6 shooters and what do think most new players if its a shooter then it most have sprint since there thinking then its a shooter and shooters have sprint.
and if there see it has no sprint then its for then not the feeling there are playing a shooter game without sprint since the new generation see lots off game’s that have sprint and there thinking from a game without sprint is no shooter game more.
and thats why to get new players play the game and make the comunnety strong with old school and new school mix a good thing.
there are maybe some games that have no sprint the question is do there get new players from the new generation to play it and to let the game stay alive for a long time.
i am from a mix generation between old and new school in the halo game’s
halo 3 was my first halo i have play was not bad in that time but when reach came out with sprint it was for me feeling more like a shooter game and later on i am still playing the halo game’s.
for me the mix generation is the feeling that sprint make’s it more like a shooter game since its for some weapons now harder to get kills with and more a challange like sniper weapons from the UNSC covenant and now prometheans sniper versions.
same for the vehicles its now little easyer to evade then with sprint and make the belance in the game more good that snipers weapons and vehicles are not that power full more like in the past.

All those words yet none of them answered my question.
Since when was Sprint so important that it simply cannot be removed and is suddenly fundamental to a game? It’s a mechanic, like the hundred other mechanics in a game. Why does it get special treatment?
I would assume the only requirement to be a shooter is…the ability to shoot. But now the existence of Sprint determines whether it is a shooter or not?
You say that “new players” need to have it to be enjoyable, but you would assume just being a good game would make it enjoyable. Not pandering to a select group that isn’t even guaranteed to stick around.
Now you switch from “popularity” to “game balance” which is a different argument entirely, and you can argue that it’s an irrelevant one, because even if the game was perfectly balanced, if it doesn’t have Sprint, then it doesn’t matter because it’s not as fun for “new people.”
