If you can, please give it to us. But for the moment, I’m going to go with the game supported conclusion that water does instakill Spartans via link shortout.

Could be wrong, but I don’t think tsassi was being serious. They could’ve used anything as a barrier, but they decided to use water a natural map barrier. I only use the water death argument as an easy joke when countering people who think lore should dictate gameplay.

Anyway, you can survive being underwater as Halo 2 on Zanzibar proved. If you go out near the water kill boundary and crouch, you’ll survive while being submerged underwater. You can also walk completely underwater if you get past the kill barrier which wasn’t hard to do in the original game.

Who here didn’t do this when they were messing around in Halo CE back in the day?

Too fast for you.

I find that most people who cite the lore regarding sprint don’t know much about it. Otherwise there would also be a want for back flips, upside down sniping, grenades in helmets, dual wielding (again), going prone, and most importantly, flipping off your enemies.

Also, if a Spartan is submerged in water, the motion tracker acts weird, but they can stay underwater fine, so that should also be something included if going by the lore : )

Also i totally agree with the last statement, people are just trying to have fun, and then there are those that are negative about everything, kinda take the point out of a VIDEO GAME.

> >

> ^This. Devs don’t just throw a mechanic into a game without at least trying to account for the effects it will have. If I didn’t like the melee ability, I could simply choose not to melee. I might even get to a point where I “do just fine” without using it… but that doesn’t mean I haven’t put myself at varying degrees of disadvantage, depending on maps, situations.
>
> Just because I’ve either adapted to, overcome, or just accepted those disadvantages doesn’t mean they have no affect on me, my game play, or even the game play of those around me since I chose not to use it.
>
> If sprint alone truly “doesn’t make or break Halo”, then those who support that statement are also bound by it and its implications… therefore, neither should its removal “make or break Halo”. In which case, if it were to be removed, then myself or anyone could just as easily say to those who are upset about it; “the people who can’t get over it, are what breaks halo”. And “people are just trying to have fun, and then there are those that are negative about everything, kinda take the point out of a VIDEO GAME.”

Holy cow dude, I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s like when people say to me “if you had your way, every game would be a Halo 3.5” (which couldn’t be further from the truth) yet they’d be completely okay with Halo 6 being a Halo 5.5.

> 2533274944752684;15402:
> There is at the least a slight consideration for realism in the Halo lore. After all, why bother trying to explain the Spartans so comprehensively as to talk about a neural link? Our good friend Tsassi even got you on the water instakill part, which was explained by realistic processes and particle physics.
>
> Of course, you are correct in saying that realism isn’t 100% here. After all, the writers made the infuriating decision to allow Spartans to defy the buoyant force’s laws. They also contradicted themselves because as Tsassi said, water would short out their neural link. Now, I don’t know what source you have for Spartans hiding underwater. If you can, please give it to us. But for the moment, I’m going to go with the game supported conclusion that water does instakill Spartans via link shortout.

Just to be completely clear, it was a joke. The whole idea is intentionally absurd, and contradicts the lore, for good measure. We know from this Halo 2 cutscene, for example, that the Mjolnir armor is completely sealed because it can take the vacuum of space. Putting that aside, this sort of oversight would be a stupid lore detail anyway because it doesn’t make any sense to overlook something that’d make garden hoses the most fearsome weapon against your super soldiers. I hate to explain jokes, but it didn’t cross my mind that someone would take it seriously.

sprint needs to stay, its a staple of modern fps games and has been in halo long enough that removing it would upset more than enough players and could potentially ruin the game in general.

First off, homogeneity in video games is what’s killing them right now. Games like DOOM 2016 go against the flow and prove that not all games need ADS, Sprint, or other modern “enhancements” to be good.
Sprint has been in this state for two games. Compare that to the other games that didn’t have it in this series, which is five games (I don’t include Reach with 4 and 5 because Reach doesn’t have a system with Sprint like 4 or 5). I think there’s more basis here for Sprint to be removed based on past experiences than there is for it to stay based on current experiences.

You’re also making a grandiose claim with nothing to back it up. You’ve provided no evidence that removing it would actually damage the game or anger the players as a whole.
It’s your opinion that players would be upset at it’s removal. Not a fact.

I suggest you read the last 770 pages of posts and reasses your opinion.

LOL! someones passionate about this

So the only reason it has to stay is because it’s on some bucket list of features required in “modern games”? A list I’ve asked for but not a single person has been able to show me. Not for any other reason?

On a thread entirely based around one mechanic, its function in the game, and its possible inclusion in future games?

I would be surprised if people didn’t have some level of passion after 700+ pages.

list of games with sprint:

  • Battlefield - HALO - COD - Rainbow Six Siege - Far Cry - Titan Fall - Bioshocki could go on, but its pointless. these are some the most relevant FPS games with sprint

That wasn’t the answer to his question.

He asked what list of features are so “required” in order for the game to be a modern game?

Yes games can be relevant with Sprint, but are they relevant because of Sprint? Can a game without Sprint still be relevant?

I ask for a bucket list of features required in modern games.
I get a quick list of games which has sprint.
Not the same thing.
Try again.

And each of those games plays drastically differently, it’s just that they all have Sprint. What point are you making here, exactly?
DOOM is also a relevant FPS. Doesn’t have Sprint.

in my OPINION some features that makes a FPS game modern are, A.D.S, Sprint. those two are the most important, as well as graphics, but thats not what im talking about.

Typing in caps doesn’t make your point any stronger.

Even without Sprint, Halo CE is still the fastest playing Halo game in the series. There’s nothing stopping Halo from playing faster if they increase the BMS and remove Sprint. That’d actually fix a lot of the issues that people have with hitscan weapons.

And just because modern games have sprint doesn’t mean that Halo has to have it. There’s nothing stating that a game has to have certain features in order to be considered good.
CS:GO doesn’t have ADS or Sprint. It’s still a huge game. TF2 doesn’t have ADS or Sprint. It’s still a huge game.
Your arguments are becoming increasingly poor.

Halo 5 seems to be trying its hardest to call it “Smart-Link” instead of ADS. I guess under a technicality it’s not the same thing, which makes Halo not a modern game. Also I’m pretty sure Bioshock has Zoom the same way previous Halo games did.

But if it’s only your opinion that something is a staple and something isn’t, then why did you claim that “Sprint is a staple of FPS games” as if it was a fact?

thats you r opinion lol, halo under 343 will most likely have sprint. Theres plenty of FPS games without sprint and plenty with. not sure why listing three would make you think you’re some how proving me wrong lmao

smart link and ADS are extremely similar, and again its my OPINION , i never said fact
