I believe that they say they prefer sprint because they are used it as it’s been here since Halo 4 and as an ability for Reach. 343 didn’t really bring in any new fans for Halo 4 and 5 so they are still a small portion of the current fan base that probably dislike the old Halo’s. I belive 343 should make a spin off game with Halo 5’s gameplay to satisfy the small 5% new Halo fans.

I just checked HaloTracker and it showed a population of 360k for the winter season.

Like I said earlier, that’s the total people over 3 months. Every playlist has about 80,000/200,000 people unranked, meaning they played less than 10 games per playlist. These are not very active users. Based on xbox live, Halo 5 likely has between 150,000-100,000 individual users monthly. So over the course of 30 days, that many people just sign on to the game. Even if that many people are always online, there are 7 ranked playlists, and quite a few more for unranked playlists, along with like 4 or 5 for Warzone (the most populated mode), customs, forge, and a few people are probably playing campaign. If there are close to 20 playlists, that means there are generally less than 10,000 people on any given playlist right now, which is then separated further based on rank, which gets significantly lower the higher you are, and again this is assuming there are 150,000+ people on right now. Based on what I’ve seen, North America seems to be the most popular place to play the game, so the game likely has less users between 10am-5pm and 11pm-5am when most people are at work or asleep. It is not impossible to assume that there are times when the game only has 15k people online, but like I said earlier, would not be the average, and I don’t know where that number came from.

I don’t get why topics go on for so long “like sprint really needs to be talked about more” when topics have been locked before for talking about a topic enough that it was time to put the topic to an end. I think the general idea of why sprint and why not has been pretty much summed up over and over again.

Same could be said for 6 man limit topic.

if you’re going to have Sprint just have limited sprint like in Reach. Spartan abilities aren’t Halo and need to go.

This I agree with. But should we not assume the number is higher because Halo Tracker does not include unranked modes? Halo Tracker also updates daily or weekly.

I think Spartan abilities are the best thing about halo and are very halo.

i don’t even consider sprint an ability just a basic ability expected of any living thing to be able to do just like jump and climb over.

  1. This is a mega thread to begin with
  2. It’ll be talked about until no one cares anymore just like any topic out there
  3. The topic will be brought up full force again once we get to see if h6 ends up with it.

I don’t, Spartan abilities are pretty much unnecessary and are actually the #1 thing that agitates me throughout reach, 4 and h5, more so than even sprint.

@ paragraph two: it really isn’t an ability anymore, it’s more natural to the Spartans now that it’s an infinite ability to the Spartan. I’d consider it an actual ability had it had cooldiwns like reach and h4 had.

“basic ability expected of any living thing to be able to do just like jump and climb over.” I would expect many things that Spartans could do in a real life experience but don’t in game. That’s the biggest flaw with your perspective and one that annoys me with people. Even just last night I had someone say the newer halo art style was more practical and makes the weapons look like they could actually kill other Spartans, halo was never meant to resemble real life or look practical, it was meant to be its own thing which it has long lost ever since reach and after. The game is on it’s last strike before I’m done, they’ve removed so much that I was interested in and added stuff I can find that other games do better at.

The whole mega thread aspect seems biased to me. There are mega threads on topics less populated than some other topics that have a larger showing of community thoughts. Some topics I don’t think would of went on for so long if there wasn’t a mega thread for it. Like people have brought up where are abilities and equipment in halo many times but you don’t see a mega thread for it.

If I see a topic that has too many post I tend to avoid it cause I feel a topic is best talked about from a fresh start rather than being stuck in a linear thought path that tend to be to repetitive and often can get toxic at times.

I feel like mega threads just inflate a section of the community opinions to seem more important.

To me halo CE and halo 2 are annoying to replay with out abilities. I hated halo 5 abilities despite liking abilities. You never really pointed out the flaw with “basic abilities”.

Lol “biased” please tell me how. It’s something only the moderators/343 control, and in 343s case they can’t be biased cuz they use sprint in their games. mega threads are there to stop people from making multiple threads on a specific issue. Sprint threads used to be made all the time, now they get directed here. The megathreads are only for hot topics that come up a lot, and going down the last 30 threads none are on abilities and that’s why there isn’t none, people aren’t constantly making them. I also don’t see your point on how making a new thread is better when either way people still repeat themselves, I could make a brand new sprint thread and everything that has been said in here will transfer over to the new thread. The only way you get legitimate new talk going is by bringing up new topics that are never talked about, and at this point not much is exactly new on waypoint, much of it is just informing people on how x works, why x works this way, or how to get the solution to x or simply giving feedback to 343 on how to improve x.

I never tried saying the flaws with the basic abilities themselves, I said your view on how it being a thing every living thing does like jump or climb or sprint are flawed, it’s flawed because we can also go prone but Spartans don’t do it, they also don’t roll, or dodge when they have instincts that react 100x faster than the average human. The point was real life plays no part in video games, and neither should lore. Just because something can do something doesn’t mean it should do it.

Possibly, but I don’t know what the overlap is like. Maybe most of the 80,000/200,000 largely play unranked and warzone. However we can be sure that there really are only 150,000-100,000 players monthly based on Halo 5’s ranking on xbox live, regardless of what they’re playing. I also wonder how much of the population was bloated by the Monitor’s Bounty and the last few updates. After the update that brought the custom game browser I reinstalled Halo 5, played a few rounds on every playlist and in customs, wasn’t happy and uninstalled again. It would seem possible that this happened to at least a few other people, but I can’t know if this has any significant change on the population. I guess the best way to know is to wait for the next season to begin and tracked on halo tracker.

Back on topic though, sprint is bad, and I’d really like to see a spinoff (not Halo 3 Anniversary) without sprint to test the marketability of such a product.

It is not impossible to assume that there are times when the game only has 15k people online, but like I said earlier, would not be the average, and I don’t know where that number came from.
> >
> > This I agree with. But should we not assume the number is higher because Halo Tracker does not include unranked modes? Halo Tracker also updates daily or weekly.
>

Agreed.

The point was real life plays no part in video games, and neither should lore. Just because something can do something doesn’t mean it should do it.

I’m pretty active on the forums and from what I’ve seen there has been just about as many people asking about why there isn’t more abilities as do people posting topics that get reverted to mega threads.

People tend to get yoinked on for expressing it though.

343 are biased when it comes to who they listen to they tend to favour competitive players opinion over any one else.

There is no population data for halo 5 other than the most played list comparison and 343 claiming that it has the highest MAU since halo 3.

Look on team beyond, that’s all competive players and it’s completely agreed over there that sprint is bad.

The pro-sprint argument is falling apart. They said “sprint speeds gameplay.” but the maps have to be enlarged to accommodate sprint which means you’re not getting anywhere faster. Its an illusion. They said “spartans can sprint in the books, and it wouldn’t make sense if they couldn’t.” The spartans could also do flips, prone, wrestle, deflect homing missles and survive falls from space. It doesn’t mean they should add those things in gameplay just because they could do it in lore or real life. That would be crazy as saying we should get out of our cars in a racing game because we could do it in real life. I get where you guys are coming from, you just want Halo to be better and to love it’s developers the same way you want to love an artist for his paintings. But when loyalty becomes so potent where you dismiss reason thats when theres a problem. We all want a better future for Halo, it’s our passion, our childhoods, and when you see someone ranting about the new direction. He isn’t just some hater, he is someone who stuck around and genuinely cares about Halo. You guys like using the term “adapt or leave”. But if 343i removed sprint, would you be able to adapt?

The fact is there is no high ttk shooter with the feel of halo that isn’t enchanted movement and momentum based. I think we deserve h3a at least if they are going to continue the way they are going. Get raven or another studio to make it so 343 has little to no input. Right now I have no shooter on the market I like. Halo is the only online shooter I could play for more than an hour. If yooka laylee has taught us anything it’s that Microsoft don’t know what consumers want. They had the banjo iP for 15 years and did nothing with it. They had rare make kinect games. The guys at rare leave and get funded for a banjo clone in an hour. It smashed kickstarter records and will make playtonic a fortune. I bought an original xbox for halour after playing it at toys r us. If I played halo 5 at toys r us now I wouldn’t buy one because it wouldn’t stand out against all the other momentum based shooters. I pray for a non 343 involved h3a.

> By competitive, 343 means “Sponsored-To-Compete” people. If they did actually listen to the competitive community (I might be late on info), radar wouldn’t be in HCS at all.

Competitive halo was always a no radar thing even in the MLG matchmaking playlists. Still many of those big comp players dislike spring, awhile ago there was a huge outburst because ogre 2 made it clear on stream that he thinks halo 5 isn’t halo and they should do away with sprint.

I think that Spartan charge and ground pound should be taken out of multiplayer although left in campaign for different pathways and I also think that Sprint and boosters would be alright in multi as they are non lethal. Another point is the 0 regen during Sprint is just obscene I mean it’s impossible to get out of a fight or win a fight for that matter if you say spawn in walk about 4/5 meters and boom 3 Spartans all shoot at you so you try to keep running but oh wait you no longer regen as you’re running so you have to wait round a corner but obviously at leas one would have followed you and your teammates are nowhere to be seen s you ate literally a sitting duck just because Sprint prevents regen I mean even have a very slow regeneration when sprinting don’t make it so that if I try to make it fair fight that it’s useless because I can’t get to the same health as them.
